A Prussian uniform.
He passed away in 1975 shortly after I enlisted in the Navy. I do not know much else. He served in France and was wounded On july 10, 1918 at the battle of Chateau-Therri NW of Paris. I have a Prussian flag embroidered by my Nana I am having framed with this photo. I really wanted to do a shadow box with a period correct Luger but DANG! they get expensive. Any historians here can tell by the uniform his rank or unit? Could the white spots by his hips be a sword and dagger? He never spoke about this when I was young. I’ll have a pic of the finished tribute to him when it’s done
Edit to add; a quick look into the battle where he was wounded shows he survived the battles of Belleau Wood as well as The second battle of the Marne ! Two of the most storied and historic battles of WW1. I always knew he was a true badazz when I was a kid. He was the strongest man I had ever seen and the kindest to children & women. He proved to be more of a father to me than my dad. When I last saw him before he died it was at an Aunt's house in July of 1973. He was stripped to the waist swinging a sledgehammer busting up a brickwork planter at 77 years old !
