man of man. After taking a gander through classified here and elsewhere and looking at the auction sites, you folks down in the Commonwealth are soo unfortunate with regard to firearms prices. Now I understand the whys and whatfors but wow! Some handguns I saw on an auction site were priced at hundreds more than what they can be had elsewhere. Feel sorry for you all.

I think that cost is one of the main reasons that we have such a short supply of young shooters. I am 30, and have several friends in their early to mid 20's. I talk to them about shooting and going to the range every time we get together for coffee and such. I set up days where I gather my collection and bring some friends to the range for a day of target shooting. We always have fun. Then they inquire about the steps needed to obtain gun liscenses and personal firearms. I gather all the necessary information for them, and they are shocked at the cost involved. They call it an "expensive hobby". Not only is it a difficult process just to obtain the licensing, but then to pay for the gun, range time, ammo etc. Naturally they all want what they see on tv, such as Desert Eagles etc. I bring my .22's as my main target guns because the ammo is cheap. You can shoot for a few hours without straining your budget. However, they get bored easily with the .22, and want to shoot my 9mm, my .40 cal, and of course the 12 gauge, which can become very expensive. I personally believe the AG is purposefully forcing these restrictions on us in an effort to jack up prices where it becomes unattractive to young shooters.

unfortunately, cost is a huge factor... one that I think the state likes that way too...

Think about it... does it really matter if you have a Glock with 10 rounds of .45acp or a S&W .45acp? Both can shoot the same just as fast... so why is one legal and the other not? I think the$$$'s have a little to do with it.

Yea, I don't think that if I started shooting here in MA, I wouldn't have the collection that I have.

It's not cheap. I think that I drop at least 60-100 every time that I walk into a gun shop.

I think that reloading had helped a lot, but it's still not cheap to buy the guns.

As was said above, I think that this was planned to keep guns out of a lot of honest peoples hands. I think that it's caused a high level a crime among criminals.

Don't just feel sorry for us. Get more conservative, voting gun-owners to move down here and help us turn it around.

Unfortunately it might just be the other way around... we're (conservative pro-gun folks) moving up there! I'm half way. ;)

The strnge thing is there a many great shops in the Northshore area.. Maine doesn't seem to have much- at least southern Maine anyway. KTP has lots of stuff but their prices seem high... although you can get brandy new glocks, H&Ks, etc, etc. :(

I think it's awesome what you've been doing with your friends! Even if they can't afford to do it on thier own at least you've introduced them to a great potential hobby and maybe they will help voting the right way going forward. Every bit helps.... trust me.

Wrt the restrictions- yes your a 100% accurate IMHO. We all are guilty of complaining about how ridulous the laws and restritions are here but that is not what they are trying to do... the the anti gun crowds are not that stupid. The aren't going frontal on their attact.. but they are being persistent and smart about it. Trying to wear us down.... literally. I personally won't let that happen. As a matter of fact I try to explain to my nongun friends and family (not just the antis- but the neutrals) constantly- as to why the laws are ridiculous and are imposed just to hurt law abiding citizens. I think when they really listen they start to understand.

The only stragegy we have is to use the rabbit approach. If each of us can inform and educate a handfull of people how much of great sport and hobby this is things can change.. but it's gonna take some time. They can pass on the good word on do the same as us. Heck I'm probably good for my lifetime.. but I want to make sure my kids have the opportunity to enjoy this hobby as well!

+1 I bought my new non- MA compliant Glock 23 from KTP before I became a MA resident. My wife liked it so she bought a refurb from Four Seasons. I can't tell the difference between the two when I'm shooting them. We saw the same model S+W 1911 my wife bought from Ware Gun Shop at KTP this weekend for $180 more. Although there's a few guns I'd like to be able to buy I do appreciate the good prices on the ones I can buy.

I'm going to have to go with this... I've been to several other parts of the country, and after just getting back from the midwest (Ohio and Indiana), it just wouldn't really make sense for me to live here. Massachusetts will always be "home", but I can see myself having a lot more fun in a freer state (and not just because of gun laws).

Cost isn't so bad if you like older revolvers. :)

I bought a S&W model 60 from Four Seasons a year and a half ago for $265, (when I was a MA resident) and sold it (for another snubby) this past April at the Kittery Trading Post for $260. :)
