Well, we've reached my favorite part of the the year. The youth pheasant training and hunt which my club sponsors.

I've been doing this for nearly 8 years now and every year is a success, I get to meet the up and coming youth and train them on safety and shooting skills. We do this for 6 weeks and the learning and skills capability from start to finish is amazing. We have kids that can't hit a target on day one, and six weeks later they are busting almost every clay.

On hunt day we prepare a big breakfast in the morning while the kids and mentors set out birds on our property. They then come back to eat, get paired with mentors and dogs and go have fun hunting.

This year.....and this group......will be awesome...... we have 12 total and 8 of them are young women. Its great to see the women are up and coming, and we've run thru the first week training and many of them are already good shooters with good form. Which means their dad and moms have worked with them already quite a bit, and took them shooting.

About a month til hunt day....its going to be fun working with these kids this year.

Awesome! I’ve got a couple times and run my dog for the youth hunt. It’s an awesome time and it’s great to see the kids getting into it.

If it wasn't for all the buses on teh road and the yentas trying to figure out their route from home to school to Dunks to Starbucks to somewhere to home (like they didn't JUST do the same route back in June) it would be my favorite time of the year as well. LOL

Holy shit this. I know summers over when I have to get up early again just to get into work before the high school traffic shitshow on main street starts!

What’s the age limit to qualify? I’m 40, but I act like a child.

I can’t hit clays for the life of me. Going out with some buddies this morning up in Scarborough for a bachelor party to shoot a round of sporting clays. It’s a totally different flavor of shooting and requires a real ‘feel’ that I don’t seem to possess (with minimal practice/experience).

Kudos to you for giving back and helping teach the next generation. Once I get my home range set up I was thinking about reaching out to a local Boy Scout troop to see if it could be of use to them for an Appleseed type event.

That is awesome Mark, please post some pics of the hunt if you can get some.

Successful hunt yesterday.

Cooked a big hearty breakfast first thing for parents, kids and mentors while about 40 birds were set out.

The lord shined on us with some perfect weather as it was cool for the dogs to work.

Mentors and dogs were setup with each one of the young men and women, and safety rules gone over, ammo checked for each gun and it was time to hunt.

8 out of the ten kids limited out. Many were back early with 2 birds All kids got at least one. Some fine shooting by the young women in the group.

The kids were then shown how to butcher and clean the birds, or many of them set one in the clubs freezer for a future pheasant taxidermy class which has become very popular.

Especially rewarding, We had one physically challenged young man who we were questioning at the start of shotgun training if he would be able to hunt.
At the end of training he became very proficient, and got his first two birds ever. Awesome.

Resurrecting this one....9th year training these kids from August to September. Nearly 25 years or so of the club doing this for the Youth, all free, free ammo, free clays, free breakfast and lunch and no charge to hunt. Kudos for to my Club NORCO, and all the volunteers, parents and mentors who make it happen. Thanks to my club for hosting this every year and putting a lot of money time and effort towards it.

Largest group ever about 17 this year. Hunt was third weekend in September and was a great time, wonderful breakfast cooked for the parents, mentors and kids. Cider, apples and cider donuts as a snack, Burgers and dogs for lunch. Lot of kids cleaning their game after.

It was little rainy, but not too bad and cool for the dogs. Lot of running birds this year, kids had a challenge. Everyone got at least one, and many will do the taxidermy class and get them mounted. Ill get some pics when I get a chance.

Bummer will be this could be the last year EVER of this if those Fxcks pass the new gun laws. That is disgusting!
