I took my niece and nephew shooting on Sunday and my mother decided to come along.

I brought most of my arsenal with us; although Liz was only interested in the Mark 1 .22. She'd tried the .357 (with .38 Spec ammo) on Friday morning and didn't really like it, so she stuck with .22. Nothing wrong with that.

Ben wanted to try everything; he proved he's definitely related to me: his favorites were the ParaOrdnance P12 .45 and the S&W 686P with the 6" barrel (using .357 ammo) which REALLY put a grin on his face.

But the big surprise of the day was that after 24 years, I managed to get my mother to shoot! My MOTHER! Now, I only expected taht I might get her to try the mild-recoiling Ruger Mk 1... I never thought that she'd want to try the PPK! and after shooting 1 round out of it, I really never thought that she'd want to shoot more! I mean, that little auto's got a bit of a kick.

But I got proof...

The secret to getting her to shoot it was when she asked me "what that little gun" was that I told her it was a Walther PPK, the same gun that James Bond used to shoot. (OK, mine is a .380, not a 7.65, but hey.) She's always loved Sean Connery...

But the best part of the day was when all three, including my mom, told me that they'd had a great time... and when my mother told me that she thought shooting was fun!

Lynne... I think I may have a student for you when my mother comes up next.

Looks like everyone had a good time.

You really do need to be careful around certain "little old ladies".

My mom is now in her 80's. A few years ago, she started asking me about Glocks (she was always a S&W person).

Well, she bought a Glock Model 22. I put a light recoil spring in it already to lighten up the slide.

Greg, I actually went through something similar, after I bought my RomAK 3. "Why do you need a Sniper Rifle?" Then I had to explain that I'm not about to go "Postal", and I've had an interest in this area for many years, but suppressed buying some of the guns.

Good job Ross- now what will be even better is when your mom tells all of her friends how much fun shooting is, and she starts her own chapter of "Grammas for Guns" [lol]

Hey, my wife resembles that remark. We're grandparents. She shoots.
