Through the new campaign, police officers are selected for special training to help them detect impaired driving. Those officers are called Drug Recognition Experts or DRE’s. If a police officer pulls someone over and believes they are under the influence of drugs they must take that person back to the station where a DRE will administer a fluid test to see which drug they are on and how much is in their system. If someone refuses that test, they could lose their drivers license. Law enforcement officials said they are optimistic about the possibility of a roadside fluid test in the near future.

This might sound good on paper, because who wouldn’t want to get stoned drivers off the road? But don’t be fooled – this is just a way for the government to detain you unlawfully. “He looked high” is gonna the new justification for taking law abiding citizens into custody and forcing them to pee into a cup in order to prove they’re NOT violating the law.
So if you’re tired because your crotch fruit was screaming all night and you’ve got bags under your eyes on your way to work, be prepared to be dragged to your local police station where the burden of proof is on you to prove you’re not guilty, instead of the other way around.

I guess he forgot about the United States V Sharpe:

The Court of Appeals' decision would effectively establish a per se rule that a 20-minute detention is too long to be justified under the Terry doctrine. Such a result is clearly and fundamentally at odds with this Court's approach in this area. Pp. 682-686.

One of these days, I'm going to hear Faker-related news that I actually like and agree with. Hasn't happened yet.

Anyway, a few years back when a cop stopped me, he almost took me in because he thought I was on drugs. (This is especially laughable for someone who has literally never done any kind of drug, ever, not even so much as smoke a single cigarette. But, let that go.) I violated what they say about "don't talk to cops" and was able to give him enough doubt so that he let me go. I can't say I'm a fan of making it easier for cops to arrest people because they "look high".

Another thing, CBD oil made from hemp will cause a positive on these drug tests due to the trace amounts of THC, even though getting high from CBD oil is utterly impossible. So, if you use this stuff to try to sleep better, or ease anxiety, etc. they can ruin your life over something like this.

Why is this being generated by the Governor's office? Forgetting the fact that the Governor role in MA is essentially an empty suit shouldn't this be put forward by elected legislators?

But but......cops are so awesome? How could they do this?

Because they’re natural law breaking fuxkers.

And that goes for their relatives too.

Any cop who was half decent would turn his badge in.

    I’ll wait.

This has got to be a joke. If they go for additional training do they become Dr. DREs?

The readers digest version of this video is that they tried it in Cobb county and lots of innocent people were jailed overnight and paid thousands of dollars defending themselves against drug recognition officers who were wrong. The practice was suspended after litigation started.

I was going to post that. Only you beat me to it by a few hours.

There's a guy at work that looks a LOT like Jim Breuer too. That was one of the first things I mentioned to the guy I work with. He didn't see it until I showed him a picture.

As much as I hate pot and the smoking behind the wheel thats become retardly normal here.

I hate Faker and government intrusion worse.

I do agree there needs to be something to keep high drivers in check. But they should have figured that out before they legalized pot.

And should not be something totally unconstitutional as this practice would be

What, did they run out of divining rods?

Subjective field sobriety tests are garbage.

Better still, forget pot for a moment. How about a roadside test to see if they are "driving impaired"? This will rule out blind/deaf old people, drunks, druggies, people who are deaf/blind/can't feel their feet, etc.

Of course, it needs to be some sort of test they haul out in a box, and you either pass or fail. It needs to be totally objective.
