I went to my local police department to get an FA-10 form and they told me that they are not using the forms anymore and I need to fill out online? If this is true how would I get the other person to sign and what would stop someone from filling out without the other persons consent? Thank you

Don't use the lame e-file system, just find the FA 10 pdf and use that, and mail it in, like everyone else does. It's still legal.

K, Thanks but if I want to use they online do they need to be present? How does it work?

Wasn't sure where to put! Hence the cross post. Sorry

You need the PIN # from both seller and buyer. Computer need to be online and hook up to a printer.

Fillout the online form after PIN# verification and submit. An instant PDF will be generated in which you send it to the printer. 1 copy for seller and 1 copy for buyer.

If any problem, call geeksquad. Not sure the state outsourced the IT, you might get someone from india to help with your problem.

I just did this for the purchase of my Sig. It was easy and fast. I know some people say NOT to use the online form because it's creating a database of guns you own, but I'm pretty sure the paper form is being retyped by an intern out of NU in the Chelsea office anyway in the same Database...

That's not the main reason why you shouldn't be using it. The site is downright unsafe.

Starve the beast.

If they can bury US in bureaucratic bullshit, they least THEY can do is scan the damned useless form.

Does it really matter? You are grown up enough to make your own choices, without having some lobby group telling you yea or nay. It's only a damn form!

It does matter because it's pretty obvious we have to start exerting pressure on some bureaucrats to get this problem fixed. It needs to be done now because a bunch of people are sheep and are already sucking for the state's excuses. If much more time elapses, people will start accepting the lies EOPS/CJIS is putting out there as gospel.

I like your insinuation (eg, **** the form, just stop using them) but most people don't want to worry for the next 6 years (the statute of limitations on paper gun laws in MA) whether or not the state is going to hit them with a criminal charge because they didn't report a transfer. (S128A/B charges in MA are exceptionally rare, but it's still safer to file the paperwork. )

Carnac says: There will NEVER a response to GOAL's query or the query of some state legislators on GOAL's behalf!!

The bureaucrats are successfully ignoring the queries and will continue doing what they do best . . . pontificate from upon high, re-interpreting MGLs, dictating what WE MUST do, confusing the PDs so that they won't stock/give out forms, etc.

I called my state senator and rep about this problem. They in turn called the Firearms Record Bureau and as a result the local PD got a supply of FA 10 forms. There has to be away for the state or whoever to straighten out the fact that the PD are dispenceing the wrong info regarding the FA 10 forms. Yeah I know the cops giving out false info whoda thunk it. I did find out one interesting fact 40% fo the state has no internet access,so no internet no online FA 10 filing.

Uh... yes and no. Perhaps it was silly of me to ask here rather than shoot GOAL a note directly, but I want to know if an organization that I am a longtime dues paying member of has anything to say, or has anything in the works, or has wrestled any kind of clarification about the necessity of using the electronic version, etc. So, sure, ultimately we must all decide on our own courses of action, but some of us like to be as informed as possible when making a decision. YMMV.

Mike,

I never said to **** using the forms. I simply do not get the big stink over a PDF form. Just print it out and mail it in if that makes you feel better. The whole thing is just amazing, to say the least.

Is there a pending bill on this? If not, what language would you propose?

This is news to me. Could you elaborate on this?
