Exclusive: Feds Demand Apple And Google Hand Over Names Of 10,000+ Users Of A Gun Scope App

It's handy at the range, and you can save multiple zero profiles in the scope. Some users use it to see how someone's aim is, for coaching purposes.

According to the ATN website, if you have an ATN electronic scope and their app, you can use your phone to see what it sees, record video of what's in front of the scope, and enter stuff like projectile weight, muzzle V, wind speed, wind direction, relative humidity. You already zeroed the scope, and it knows tilt, cant, temperature, barometric, and can in some cases estimate range, then the scope calculates a ballistic solution for you and moves the reticle to compensate for all that. And the scope can be either a "white light" or "night vision" and for a bit more cash will "see" in the thermal. You can send the scope picture to another phone as well. There is a "shot activated video" that streams video, and when the scope hears a shot, captures 30 seconds before and then continuously records video and sound until you stop it. That's a lot of advanced capability, and now FedGov is taking names of who has the app.
That is some serious deadly computerized weaponry.
No wonder the gov wants it out of our hands.

Sounds like the modern day version of the "secret mathematical" formula that assassins use for shooting through holes to keep hidden.

It's not secret anymore and its even on wiki.

Uh-Oh, I down loaded an IPSC shot timer app on my phone. I also have a bunch of different sportsmans clubs saved on my WAZE account. Then, there is that pesky EZ-PASS that always knows where I am.

I say we all download this, just to overload them with garbage data. I already did it.

Disclaimer: This is not legal advice.

Can the gov see what we were shooting at through the scope?

The technology is there.

An image captured in the sight can be transmitted to the gov through the phone.

I hope your targets are PC, or you can get red flagged.

I don't know, but if they could, that could be fun. Or not fun, depending on how they react. Point the scope at small models of UN tanks or something fun like that.

If that scope and software is made in China (probably), then yes, they def can.

Let me adjust my tinfoil hat here, OK. Maybe that's why they need a list of who has the app, so they can scan through the sight pictures.

Great, I accidentally installed the app because I was wondering what it was.
Put the .apk up on unofficial download sites as "Barbie/Bambi Play Set".
After a few hundred thousand four-year olds install it,
the value of the data decreases modestly.

Trolling The Man with a data feed is a great way to see if the data is being misused.

(Remember, the Allies would always send a search plane over
a Magic-disclosed submarine's coordinates before attacking it,
to generate a pretext for the attack.
That way the Germans didn't realize their code was getting broken:
"How did they find the sub?
Must have been the plane they saw right before the attack...").

I’m heading out now to bury my copy of Elite Sniper 3 for PS. That’ll be next.
