I had to travel to New Oxford, PA (10 miles down the road from Gettysburg) for a funeral. My Aunt rode with us. She is in her early 70s, a lifelong Liberal and lived in MA her whole life until less than 5 years ago. She was one of the worst types of liberals, a Social Worker who thought it was her place to but into every aspect of someones life. At that point in time she moved to NH with my Uncle because his health was failing and they wanted to be close to their kids whom all live in the Manchester area (the kids had enough sense to leave MA 10s of years ago).

It was an 8 hour drive and I got to listen to all the liberal talking points on everything and of course how I was wrong about everything. The interesting part was about half way back yesterday she starts going off on everything wrong with NH. Too much drug abuse and they need more tax money to combat opioid addition and have better social programs, they need better state healthcare for the kids and elderly, legalization of pot, too many crazy people allowed to carry a gun without even getting a permit etc. Everything that is wrong about NH according to her are the reasons why a lot of us want to move there. I couldn't take it anymore and I told her it was people liker her who were ruining NH and the most NH residents didn't want career radical liberals from MA moving up, taking over, raising taxes and telling them what to do. That prompted a few pokes in the ribs from my wife in the passenger seat and the infamous stink eye. Then my Aunt huffed and puffed a couple of phrases about how I just would never understand, was wrong and it was hopeless to speak to me. The remainder of the ride home, about 3.5 hours, she was quiet. If I had know that was all it took to shut her up I would have said something along those lines hours earlier.

See? I hang out at NES to meet people better than me, and to learn to improve myself. You're a great man. Relative or no, I'd have pulled the car over and said:

I know how you feel, I can no longer discuss ANYTHING involving politics with my 88 yo mother. She is a life-long Democrat. In 2008 I managed to talk her out of voting for Obama, but since then it's been back downhill.

She believes everything bad that the TV spouts about Trump. He is the most evil man alive according to her. If I even mention his name she gets very upset and irrational, so I just don't mention him. It makes for a lot of silent rides because I have to take her shopping and to all of her appointments.

She lives in assisted living and I have a sneaking suspicion that it is a very liberal environment.

Everyone blames MA. It isn't MA. Remember, NH has 2 D Senators. Why? (The best answer I've heard hear is because the Republican that won the primary. . . . . . . VOTED ON BY REPUBLICANS. . . . wasn't good so conservatives voted liberal to protest. LOL) Because overall NH leans right fiscally and left socially. HISTORICALLY, it's meant that where those two intersect, the fiscal lean wins. In the last decade or two??? It's going the other way. It would be that way regardless of what state was next to it.

Many of my most liberal (socially) clients are north-of-Concord'ers. It took me a long time to realize that.

Now, as far as Auntie Socialworker - she's just a cog in the machine.

Last week, I listened to a Freakanomics interview with Gina Raimondo of RI. It was going pretty good (although she seems to have more jobs and education than she has years-of-age. . . "I went to Hah'vud, then I ran this for a decade, after that I was a bleep for 42 years, then I got my law degree and invented stuff for the better part of a century. . .")

But I shut it off when she said that FEDERAL taxes (note she didn't want to get thrown under the bus in RI) should be stupid-high for "rich" people because we didn't have nearly enough social programs to solve X and Y and Z.

Gina Raimondo. Gina "We're gonna cut your pension because you F'd up and we can't pay for it" Raimondo. ????

Sometimes, when your only tool is a hammer, not only does everything look like a nail, you just like hammering just to do something.

I'm betting you can find someone like Auntie Taxsomemore in conservative states like TX, FL, LA, MS and others. She's not indicative of a Mass Hole as much as a machine cog. But Mass Holes in general DO lean that way as well. LOL

EDIT

My dad is a life-long Democrat. It broke his heart when I registered Republican. He voted for John Silber TWICE! Because he could NOT vote for a R, no matter how liberal they were.

But last spring, we were talking on the porch as a family (my bother and wife are WAAAAAY left. Like "pink pussy hat" left. No joke) and he was saying that he thinks the D party has lost touch with America and he might have to rethink who he votes for.

I almost fell off my chair. LOL

Everything that is wrong with NH is a direct result of NH not putting up a wall keeping Massachusetts migration out.

I hope that they don't do that until after I get there.

Just like immigration, you don't want to stop all immigrants, just the ones that will damage our infrastructure. So no liberals or terrorists need apply!

All those thousands of people that live in NH and work in MA ,where the vast majority of high paying jobs are, what happens to all those people and property tax dollars coming into NH ?

First, sorry for your loss.

Second, I salute you for your patience in listening for 8 hours.

Third, I salute you for your restraint. In a state of grief, my filter wavers and I no-shit would have pulled over and told her to shut up or get the fvck out.

I'm not even kidding...not even a little.

My bet is your liberal aunt didn't chip in for gas or tolls on the trip, and in return for being an entitled liberal leech, decided to berate you.

Liberal vs non-liberal microcosm.

Intelligent Design always provides the answer:

A semipermeable membrane is a type of biological or synthetic, polymeric membrane that will allow certain molecules or ions to pass through it by diffusion—or occasionally by more specialized processes of facilitated diffusion, passive transport or active transport.

OP, good on you for holding restraint for so long. That's a hell of a lot longer then I could take.

As a human being you can only take so many jabs before you snap back on your attacker. I wouldn't have given a flying shit whether my wife would be pissed at me. You want to say how you feel? Well guess what I'm next in line and it's not going to be pretty.

Nice to blame NH's problems on Ma**h***s, but it is a little more nuanced then that. Fault goes to the Boomercuck R's. They're the problem. Yeah they drive pick up trucks and talk a good pro Murica game, but they are greedy socialist shitbags under those Carhartts. They really really care about their gov't gibs and unlike dindus, Boomercuck R's never miss a vote. Yes the MassD's saw opportunity and have moved in with moar gibs, moar everything, but first fault lies with NH's native Boomerstock.

Except that of the 57% of NH residents not born there, substantially less than half are from MA.

And that’s assuming only Liberals move from MA to NH, which the folks here who’ve made the move here can disabuse you of. I suspect UNH pulls in more Liberals than any other single source, but have no data to back that theory up.

NH has tension between Democrats and Republicans, and the Free State project to fight against bigger government. That’s lacking in MA. But it does not do NH any good to blame their problems on MA.

No state has a handle on the Opioid crisis.

That is why, as soon as I purchased my SUV, I had a "007" ejector seat installed. My wife's SUV has a "Get Smart" ejector seat - 1st you get a giant whoopie pie in the face, then are tossed out!! Ultra Liberal, Anti-2A and ANTIFA sensors make it so we don't even have to press any buttons. God, I love technology!!

If you want to try it yourself, it's easy... Plenty of recalled Takata airbags to put in the seat:

Maybe so, but I blame the 5000 mass dickbags that snuck in on the day of the last election and swung NH

Wilkow was talking about electoral systems at the state level. That would help prevent coastal libtard parts of NH ruin it for all of NH.

Note- i haven't lived in NH in over decade. I am sure Team Libtard's footprint has expanded beyond Durham, Newmarket, Exeter etc.

The problem is when most Ds say that, they are not going to go R, they are going to go Our Revolution, which is so far left of the average D, that it makes the T Party look like RINOs comparatively.

I don't understand those people. If I moved to NH the last thing I would ever want to do would be to drive to MA every day to do some job where I'm still getting extorted by the MA tax code. Just get an equivalent job in NH. Sure, the wage might be lower, but it might actually wash out because NH isn't taxing your income.

No,you only have your own state to blame for it's messed up laws regarding same day voter registration.Politicians, regardless of party, are going to take advantage of whatever they can, whenever they can.

Should've stopped in Hershey and get her some good chocolate. That would've silenced her...

that's funny because everyone that I know personally that has moved from MA to NH is a 2A supporter that brings their guns and their votes with them...

I wouldn't have had to do that. My wife, instead of elbowing me in the ribs, would have had my back long before then.

No, she wouldn't have blasted the hag, she would have just steered her away by redirection.
