Hi all,

for ESAPI body armor, some of them have a “type v-ss” printed on them.

what does v-ss mean?

I think V-SS refers to the plate type that it will hold, but I'm not sure what it actually means in terms of specification. Maybe it's outdated nomenclature that you might find on surplus gear?
 
"Type V" part of the string may be "Type 5"...?
 
SS is most likely Stab and Spike rated however not sure what the V is for I have never seen level V and the NIJ rating only goes up to IV.

This is what I thought too. "Level I-IV" indicates performance levels, where "Type" usually denotes fitment or style configuration.
"SS" would make sense because of the need for it as a protective utility.
