I have an old collapsed barn on property that I want to remove via a tracked machine. I have a Kubota, but the barn has a lot of nails everywhere, and i mean EVERYWHERE, and I'd rather not have a full set of new tires.

Under the current red tape/ garbage regulations/ taxes and fees up the a$$ rules, in Mass would i need the above mentioned license to rent something such as a bobcat with tracks?

Rental company will let you know. From what I understand they have a temporary renters licence you can get

I think it only matters if you do it for hire. Govt wants their cut.

The temporary licenses are limited as to the number of days (per month or something) to make sure that the professionals are not denied paid work by unlicensed amateurs.

I believe you need a temporary license even to do your own not for hire work, which is enforced via the rental companies.

Every rental company is different on what they will rent to you.

I have a hoisting license and run 56ft lulls (off-road fork trucks), excavators and 60'+ articulating boom lifts at work... all equipment though rental company's. The very same rental company that I do business with constantly for years at work, will not allow any equipment to go to my house. Business rentals only is their policy.

Others are much more forgiving and will send the same equipment to your home without a license.

Burn it. Turn 3 30 yard roll off cans of debris into one 15 yard can.

Thank you for the replies. If I do not find another option beforehand, I will ask the rental company.

If you're close to a state line, see if you can rent in VT or NY if their laws are less restrictive. Also, some Bobcats have foam-filled tires for this kind of work. Would it make sense to fill your Kubota tires?

I did this at work, no flat tires and no air leaks. Worth looking into, might be cheaper than renting a machine.

I would suggest renting a mini excavator with a thumb
You can pack in a roll off tight with one

why ask? If it will delivered to your property, and operated on only your property, and picked up from your property...
As long as you know how to run it (for real), call dig-safe and know where your utilities are at - done.
As long as they don't ask, I wouldn't.
Just be reasonable and don't sue them if you kill yourself negligently.
    :)

But, foam filling the tires is a great idea for now and the long run.

I had to rent a fork truck for my Club, to do an unloading of a trailer load of clays. Most places said, "You need a license," (I did not have one at the time). So, I kept calling until I found a place that said, "where and when."

Smile and dial, that's the answer.

It's been a few years since I rented but, there was no license requirement, nor mention thereof
Maybe things changed but, they were more than happy to deliver upon walking in and throwing down my credit card. - Major rental house.
Also, I rented on a Friday and got the whole weekend for a day's rate.

So - "Where have all the good times gone?"

We live in a nanny state, one of the few that even requires hoisting licenses.

The only thing I’ve ever needed to rent a machine was a credit card.

Do you have a garden or livestock? A chicken?

Give them your name and tell them your calling from the Hv55max Farm.

I think farms are exempt from the hoisting license requirement.

I suspect if you get the HL you’ll be doing continuing education till the cows come home.

thought about that but the black smoke from the stack of tires under it would probably go over like a fart in church.
