They probably Ebay them.
If you want to dump and old cell phone, check with your local PD or DA's office, they'll usually take them. They get distributed to victims of domestic violence for the 911 capabilities.

Hard to understand that place. They only want phones and batteries, NO chargers! <DOH!>
Not sure how they figure the folks they give them to will use them, unless they are just reclaiming gold contacts and other precious metals in the phones.
Jon, my problem with donating phones (or anything) to the DV places is that they usually also advocate NO GUNS (most want a complete ban on all gun ownership)! They perpetuate themselves by Not teaching the DV victims to defend themselves . . . they teach them to call 911 (and die) and blow whistles while they are being attacked, but not how to fight back and avoid getting attacked/hurt while they wait for the calvary to arrive.
Ask Lynne what she thinks of these places? [I could be wrong, I'll take her word for whatever she has to say.]

I totaly understand Len but the majorityof DV victims have children and if an old cellphone is the only lifeline....LenS said:
It not a cash donation that goes to some "group" to further their cause, the phone goes directly to the person who may need it.
I'm sure that you'll agree that these calls with kids suck and that's who I worry about most.
