I encourage EVERYONE reading this to swamp the AG's website with e-mails. PLEASE send e-mails to his site asking for a "list" of handguns which meet his sales criteria in MA. He'll give you a very nice response about how it's up to the manufacturers to live up to his standards and he does not keep a "list". Then, e-mail him back and say that, since he makes the standards, that you feel it's wrong that he does not even keep a list of what can be sold. Then, ask him if he will give you a list of what handguns do NOT meet his criteria.

Make sure you mention that you are a sportsman in Mass and are confused as to what is compliant and what is not, and you just want to see what options are available to you to buy in MA, and that you want a list to ensure complete compliance with the law.

Get your friends to e-mail him, too. Pass this along to everyone you know in MA.

Not that we will change anything, but at least it will be a harassment thing for his office.

Doing something for the purpose of harassing someone is, at best, sinking to their level. And doing what is proposed here seems to me to be a reasonably effective way of confirming to those who want to believe it that gunowners are irresponsible folk.

I don't know. I think sometimes, when they don't want to listen, the only way to get your point acrossed. I don't think that it is necessarily sinking to there level. You're just asking for a government official to clarify a law that they are directly responsible for. I guess I don't really understand how am official can bypass a legislative process and make a law limiting commerce. Seems like that is a job for the legislative branch of the MA government. Sorry, just wanted to get a little discussion going on this. I am glad that I don't live in MA.

Something in the I learned in the military is malicous complience. Just comply with the law, asking the AG as many question as to remain within the law, he just may get an idea that there is a little bit of stupidity in the unconstitional law that he "illegally" (according to me) instituted in MA.

The way the AG can get around the state legislature is passing a "Consumer Protection Act". According to MA law, the AG has the power to pass any law he deems necessary, without involving the legislature in any way, if the law is passed to keep the consumer "safe".

So, this loophole in lawmaking gives the AG full power to advance his anti-gun agenda with no way of stopping him. And, he's going to be our next Governor. As much as I hate to say it, there is no way Healey can possibly beat him.

I'm not trying to "stoop to his level". I'd just like to have him answer for a law which has no real set standards. Try e-mailing his office, and you will be surprised at the response. It will start out "The AG is currently enforcing the Consumer Protection Act.......". Basically, what they just said was that the AG will change the way he "enforces" the BS law any time it doesn't suit his agenda properly.

All I'm trying to do is make as many people aware of this as I can. Sure, you, and I, may completely understand his rules, but what's to say he doesn't "enforce" it differently tomorrow. It's pretty easy for him to do this since he does not keep a list of what is understood to comply with is regulations on what day. Remember the Glock thing last year? They were thought to be up to his standards, but after many sales, then he "enforced" the Act differently. If he had an actual list, there would be absolutely no confusion as to what is compliant and what is not.

"The way the AG can get around the state legislature is passing a 'Consumer Protection Act'."

Nonsense. The LEGISLATURE enacted the "Consumer Protection Act." That's why it's found in, surprise!, the Mass. General Laws (c. 93A; look it up).

"According to MA law, the AG has the power to pass any law he deems necessary, without involving the legislature in any way, if the law is passed to keep the consumer 'safe.'"

Closer, but hardly accurate. The AG can draft regulations under c. 93A; they are proposed, there is a review period and then enactment under the powers set forth in that statute. What the legislature ALLOWED to happen was that a pol with aspirations of higher office - Scotty Harshbarger - came up with the idea of using the consumer protection statute to regulate firearms, despite the fact that they are expressly exempted from the Federal consumer laws because the hazards are so open and obvious. The legislature LET a mere agency run amok; Reilly is simply taking Harshbarger's ball and running with it.

Harshbarger almost made it; Reilly has FAR less opposition.

The best way to keep the AG out of the Governor's Office is to discredit him during the election cycle.

You just need to dig up enough stuff to make the voters of Mass think they really DON'T want this guy. Just start digging in his past, and start blogs, and WRITE YOUR NEWSPAPERS. Never call him Anti-Gun, call him "Anti Self Defense". Think of what it will take to make the largest block of potential voters (women, 51% of the US population) find him so repulsive that they WILL NOT vote for him. Use his track record against him.

Never underestimate the power of the Internet in Politics. There's a reason why the Politicians want to control it. If it wasn't for the Internet, I figure Kerry would be our current President.

For the upcoming primary election, I plan on changing my party affiliation from "R" to unenrolled so that I can vote against Reilly.
I hope others will do the same.
