Dura coat a 1911 frame

All finishes will wear to some degree based on the holster material. If you're using Kydex, iw will scatch everything to some degree. I finish guns in Blue, Hard Chrome and Cerakote and have had a few finished in Black Oxide. If you want a scratch free finish gpo with a suede lined Kydex holster like the Safariland. I do a number of SWAT team guns ever year in Cerakote over parkerizing and they hold up very well, they run a nylon type holster. As to the OP question about masking off areas- no just don't linger over the rails while spraying. Like any spray, the longer you linger the thicker the application. Most likely your 1911 is not lap fit to start with so you should not have an issue with bind. Yes the rails will wear. They are mated surfaces which do rubbing against one another.
