When officers found Prouty, he was driving home, allegedly committing multiple infractions and trying to elude police, Morris said. Police followed his vehicle down a wooded trail for about 100 yards, where he stepped out of the vehicle with the gun in his hands and stopped to wait for the police in pursuit, Morris said.

Police took him to Marshfield Police Department where he was booked and read his rights. He is facing charges including operating under the influence of liquor-second offense, larceny of a firearm, carrying a firearm while unlicensed, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault with intent to murder, assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest, Morris said.
