[h=1]Does anyone use any dry fire software? I have ShootOFF and L.A.S.R. on one of my machines, and was thinking of getting iMarksman® Use of Force System for NRA & CCW Trainers. If you use ShootOFF, have you created your own backgrounds or targets, or found a good source to download them? Other than video, which might be good for shoot/no shoot scenarios, I'm not sure what I would get from the iMarksman system that the other systems already have. Anyone have any experience with iMarksman? [/h]

I'm new to carrying and have been doing simple snap cap drills long enough that I'm ready for something that teaches me more.

There is laser ammo in different calibers, and also generic laser, but the harder part with using your carry/range/whatever gun is that the trigger doesn't automatically reset (unless you modify the trigger setup). There are also a few training guns, with resetting trigger, such as SIRT.

ShootOFF is open source, and free. http://shootoffapp.com/

I'm very much a muscle memory person, so I'd be doing it with my carry gun, an LC9s. So, I'm stuck with draw and fire once. At least I can reset the striker by pulling the slide back about 1/2", so I won't have to eject and reload the laser cartridge each time. Can you recommend a 9mm laser?

I'm not one to recommend anything, because there is usually a lot of variables, but I have a bunch of LaserLyte and Surestrike. Of the two, I prefer Surestrike.

There are a 2 products that I'm very fond of right now:

1.) Dry Fire Training Cards - https://www.amazon.com/Tactical-Pre...qid=1491829162&sr=8-2&keywords=dry+fire+cards

I've always been a fan of dry fire, but this takes it to the next level by putting you through practical drills that create muscle memory. Very useful and fun. I got these from the recommendation from Navy Seal Chris Sajnog.

2.) iTarget Pro - https://www.itargetpro.com/

This is a laser training system that requires your iPhone to record the laser shots. It comes with a laser cartridge so you can train at home. I haven't bought this yet but it seems like a great investment. Perfect for DA semi autos.

That iTargetpro gets great reviews on Google Play.

I have a projector and web cam connected to one of my laptops that I've installed ShootOFF http://shootoffapp.com/ and L.A.S.R. https://lasrapp.com/ on. Of the two, I prefer ShootOFF, which is free. You can use any .jpg or .png file as a background (for example a picture of your range), and also as a target, "paper", "human", "animal", etc... You can set up moving targets (shoot and no shoot), shoot/no shoot scenarios, reactive targets (ie. poppers). And did I mention it's free. :) In theory, you can use a built in camera and also either use the computers monitor or output to a TV if you have the capability. I use a projector. I'm looking for new backgrounds and "targets".

I am thinking of getting the iMarksman® Use of Force System for NRA & CCW Trainers http://imarksman.com/product/imarksman-for-nra-and-ccw-trainers-with-ir-laser/ software, but not sure what it would add to what I already have other than the video support.

I have a projection home theater that gets too little use. I am very seriously considering this...
Obviously, DA/SA or DAO for the laser boolits is preferred?

As for the bolded part of your quote: [rofl]

I've been on the fence about ordering something like iTarget- just don't know if I see the appeal of dry fire practice over a trip to the range.

As an NRA Instructor I'm always looking for someway to have my students dry fire practice before we hit the range. It does two things, it allows me to view the students handling real firearms and helps them obtain proper sight alignment and sight picture, proper grip, and not have to worry about putting lead down range and miss everything. I have several different laser options and will give you my opinion for each. First the laser cartridge. I use the one from Laser-Ammo (http://www.Laser-Ammo.com/laser-training/products). What I like is that one cartridge can be changed from a 9mm to a 45acp with the change of the sleeve on the unit. They also offer some awesome simulator software called Open Range, a little pricey but it's really cool stuff. As for software, I have iTargetPro, and the nice part is you don't have to by the target sled, just download the software to your phone and it's free. My favorite software is L.A.S.R (Laser Activated Shot Reporter from Shooter Technology Group) and for less than $110 using a 10% discount coupon found anywhere, you have the option of using anything from a light switch to a target as the "hot spot" and you're ready to shoot. My least favorite, and the one I've had the most trouble with is iDryFire... I have them all and if you'd like to try them before you buy, contact me and I'll make some time for you to come by and try them all out before you buy.... Instructor at Crosshairs-Firearm-Training.net (More Links - Crosshairs Firearm Training)

Got my L.A.S.R ( Shooter Technology Group ) discount code approved... use CFT10 at checkout and the software and laser cartridges will be discounted 10% when you checkout....

I have been looking into dry fire laser setups recently. Seems a lot more offerings than just a few years ago.

How about these offerings:

https://www.amazon.com/G-Sight-Luge...idge/dp/B07115ZZBM?ref_=bl_dp_s_mw_8152039011

https://www.amazon.com/LaserHIT-Fir...s=LaserHIT&dpPl=1&dpID=41lUV0a20DL&ref=plSrch

I just looked at LASR and seems a far better product than LaserHIT the best feature is any target can be used. Hards to beat that.

Having just the laser emitter would be awesome being able to see the projected point of impact. Some complain of inaccurate point of impact projection. Are these these reviews from those who dont lube orings and just jam it in there or dont realize how bad the sights are off?

Well I just went ahead and bought iTarget-- if anyone is interested use Discount Code DAN and you get 10% off-- saving you almost 10 bucks. The quick draw option sold me, I don't get to practice that much.

I've been using Targetize, see Homepage

If unfamiliar it's a lightweight 9-axis motion device that attaches to the bottom rail of a handgun, tracking your muzzle movement as you shoot. It will particularly track muzzle movement during the trigger pull, providing corrective feedback regarding your stance, grip and trigger pull. In addition to providing shooting form tips, Targetize will continuously track the shots you take at every range session and provide scores for your stability, precision, and accuracy. You can compare your scores to those of other shooters in the country.

I went with just a Cheapshot laser emitter. See how it works and maybe get some software down the road...

iTarget arrived pretty quickly-- the whole slide and target holder are pretty lightweight plastic. Not cheap but close. The setup is easy although I'd suggest watching the How To Video on the company website to fine tune how the target reads its shots. The 9mm "shell" goes into the chamber of my Beretta 92FS just fine and the target app gets a pretty accurate read. I used it in various light conditions and at different distances and it was spot on.

So what's the bottom line? Having just come from the range I'd say this is a nice way to get used to your sites but it's nothing like shooting at the range. I don't love the idea of pulling the trigger of my gun inside my home (ever) but as long as you follow the warnings and you don't get lazy it shouldn't ever be an issue, right?

Maybe I'll come around after more use, but right now I'd rate it a meh at best.

I just started last month with the LASR system. I think it will help me a lot with intuitive shooting techniques. Plus it's nice during crappy wintah weather.

LASR users, what's your preferred mode/drill?

I got a Glock SIRT pistol. It’s pretty good. I’ll try to get it working with a laser app when time permits.

Well after really trying to like iTargetPro I just don't. Even had my sons try it out and their response was lukewarm too. I'm going to send it back, I just don't see me using this at all. For those of you who like it-- this is no slight to you-- I mention it here for anyone who is thinking of ordering one. It's not for me.

I am curious as to what you do not like about it? Other than dry firing your pistol outside of a controlled environment such as a gun range of course...

It felt empty and nowhere near like firing the real thing. I totally understand nothing can replace actual firing, but I was hoping this would be good for training on the draw. Couple that with I just don't like pulling the trigger of my guns inside my home. It's a personal choice, if someone finds benefit to dry fire practice then this is for them. I don't.
