I start letting mine grow mid September every year and shave it around April. I spend a lot of time outside year round and in the winter it makes a big difference when I have a thick layer of facial insulation to fend off the wind/cold. I can't stand having facial hair in the summer though.

I shaved my awesome beard for a job/ interview.... two months later I officially get the job, and haven't shaved since that interview, the boss asked me " who the fu&k are you" when I went for my first day.... it grows nice and fast, and I don't see myself shaving it again....
and I only trim the upper lip so I don't get a mouthful of hair every time I eat.
    Beards, just do it.

If I let my beard grow, will gun oil and cosmoline (maybe) be acceptable "products"?

And while outside of your car you would have that freshly cleaned gun smell all day long.

Takes me about 2 months to get this far.

Edit: oh and I do not grow it to operate..... I grow it to keep warm on the tarmac.

If you want a great Beard, the only "products" you'll need are Bacon and Guinness. Using a Titanium Beard Comb made by SAR Global Tool x2/day will help cut down the itchiness.

    Last month.

i was sea captain for a bit but i scaled back. it's around 1.5 - 2" and that's an okay length for me right now. might let it go a bit for winter however. facial armor is nice when it gets cold.

My DNA is committed to not allowing my mid-upper cheek area (face cheek for clarity) from growing out, i can't do half ass.

I think the scaling is off. It looks like you only need about 8 inches to be a super wizard. This one looks more wizard like.

You're not alone. To all you insta-bearders, I hate you. My mustache (which grows in weak to begin with) doesn't connect with my beard. I started regrowing a couple weeks ago (shaved it for a conference), but it'll never be operator status.

I've been sitting at sea captain/ grandad for a few weeks now... which is funny, this is exactly how my last beard was, and then I will wake up one morning and be at viking status.
