Well Tyson (my 1 yo boxer) is shedding like crazy right now. He sleeps in my bed. I have little hair all over my sheets ans Blanket. Washing and drying getts rid of some of the hair. Any Ideas on how to get rid of the rest? The tape roller things seam to work ok, but they run out fast.

BJ's/Sam's Club/Cosco packs of the tape rollers. And during the heavy shedding times, frequent brushings.

We have a Miele vacume that does a very good job of picking up the dog fur from the carpets, but we go through bags like crazy in the spring and fall.

If you keep up with it, it isn't so bad.

Shedding seasons are also the "tick check" seasons for us. Absolutely NOTHING works on ticks on our pooch, so he gets nightly rubdowns (he so hates getting a rub down - NOT) to check for ticks.

Ditto on brushing (Harley is short hair as well), but ya gotta do it every day or every other day to get the effects of it.

Use the vaccum on the bedding - I'm serious. I do that with the comforter on the bed. It helps big time. You might want to put a towel down just for him (big towel) and keep him on that when he gets in to bed with you. Same thing with the sofa (if he does what Harley does when I'm not home and takes up residence on it) - the suction gets the little hairs that seem to sick like they've been super glued.

TYPEO1313,

Have you ever thought of getting him his own bed? (half kidding-half serious)

What turned me off from dogs sleeping on beds was a girlfriend who's yappy little poodle-dog always slwept on her bed. Well, can you imagine being in the middle of a romantic night and having some 10 pound canine try to get in the middle?

Tyson respects my space when needed. He's been sleeping in my bed since we got him so I don't think he would want to change now.

No, it wouldn't be a good idea. He may think he's done something to make you unhappy with him and he might start doing things that get you ticked off (like ripping the sofa apart to get your attention). Just vaccum the bed hun. [lol]

Shave him bald!

Seriously, packing tape is cheap. If you roll it around your hand backwards (sticky side out), and leave it loose, it will roll around your hand when you put it against the sheets and rub your hand across... Like a poor mans lint brush.

I have used the duct tape method in the past. Worked pretty good. I guess I was checking to see if there were other ways I havent tried or heard of. I don't do a whole lot of reading on dogs.

I just took my sheets out of the dryer and threw them down on the bed. Check the forum turn aroung and guess who's sleeping on nice warm sheets? God I love this dog.... I know most people who don't like dogs or intreasted in them are skiping this thread but if ya dont have a dog and you have a lot of love and time get one.

Agreed on getting a dog - but only get one if you have the time to take care of them. They're like kids (only they don't sass back [lol] ), but the love they give you is priceless.

BTW - Harley will wait after we get in to bed. He'll stand next to the bed and put the tip of his snout on it. The he gives us the sad eyes. He waits until we tell him he can come up tho. He's such a little sweetie.

Lucky for me my girlfriend works less then a mile from my house. So if I am running late at work she lets him out, and If I have plans aka range time she brings him to her house which just happends to be on the way home from the range. Life is grand.

Poor Tyson he's just causing all sorts of problems lately...

The thing that works best for me is to just put a blanket over anything my dog sits on. Just have to wash the blanket and the couch/bed/floor stays clean. Plus when company comes over all I have to do is strip off the blanket and pretend like my house is always this clean...

Dog is shedding heavy, and the pine trees are dropping needles. All not good signs of a nasty winter to come.

I refer to Dukie as my "Office Staff" as he is my only companion for most of the day (stop giggling Cross-X, no, that doesn't "explain it")

There is just something comforting having a faithful dog curl up under your desk because he wants to be there with you.

ALMOST makes up for turning the house 'fuzzy' when he sheds. (^_^)

dogs usually have 2 major sheds in a year. One before winter when their lighter coat sheds and their undercoat comes in, then again before summer when their undercoats shed. Some dogs shed all year round. Some dogs never shed.

Go figure!

We used to have a white shepard named Nickie. She was one of those happy go lucky dogs that always look like their smiling. Anyway - she shed so damn much all year round that it was a wonder she didn't become bald. She passed on unexpectedly about 5 or 6 years ago. I miss the little girl, but every so often I'll find something that still has her hair on it. She's still with me. [lol]

Varnish the little sucker? [lol]

Seriously, all you can do is live with it. Cats shed all year round, so I can sympathize. And I just got back from visiting a friend with a Siberian Husky... talk about fur-coated furniture! :D
