Does MA still require permits for powder-actuated tools?

In the 1990s, if you wanted to be "authorized" to possess or operate powder-actuated tools (using loaded .22 casings), like concrete nailers, Massachusetts required you to apply for a wallet-card permit. There were no requirements to get the permit other than you were an adult, had applied for the permit, and maybe paid some fee. I once had one of these, in preparation for a project that I ended up doing some other way. I can't find such a permit available currently via a web search. Does anybody know if Massachusetts still offers it and where you apply?

No

Back sometime pre-2000 I sawa sign at a hardware store "FID card of Powder Actuated Tool license required to purchaces charges".

OSHA requires one of your using it at a place of employment. Other than that I don’t think anyone cares

in 40 years of working in the trades I have never heard of this permit you speak of . not have I ever been asked for said permit to buy the charges of fasteners for said tools

My father (RIP) had one of those back in the 90s and I know he had no permit. It was probably a felony though since he had ammo for it and Massachusetts locks you away if a .22 shell casing gets stuck in your shoe without a permit.

I got my hilti licence 35 years ago at the carpenter trade school. One and done. Never renewed it or was ever asked by a Stewart to show it.

The only time anyone has ever cared in my 16 years on the job is when osha shows up and there are loose shots on the floor and they want to know who to fine…

Non resident or just visiting? Cable lock required and no charges or spikes unless locked seperately.

This question got me thinking. How many times a day is the average massachusetts citizen breaking the law and they don't even realize it? I'm going with, a lot.
How ever many times it is, it's not enough. But when they realize it, they'll self-flagellate themselves into their own dungeon for harming nobody.

ETA: Paging @chris_1001 ... that emoji needs to be dropped here. Please and thank you.

Take the online test, pass it and get your official certification ......

Then you can add it under your NES signature (with all your other perceived credentials)

oh man... I just bought a trigger activated Ramset from a dude in N. Providence... Am I a felon now?

can you imagine being a framer and getting jammed up for having 22 casings from ramset on you... WTAF...

And if you are a prohibited person getting 15 years federal time for
Possession of a expended casing

I think those got some kind of exemption either as part of or after MA GCA 1998. But in the old days, yes, there was some kind of a permit or you had to have an FID.
