I was talking to some friends and the topic of Irving Fryar and Hart Lee Dykes came up about their problem at a RI bar. During the scuffle, Irving actually pulled a gun that he had a license for in Massachusetts. From what I remember wasn't he acquitted because a Mass license is legal in RI an they felt he was threaten. Anybody remember what exactly happened?

A Mass LTC is NOT legal in RI for anything but passing through. Pub-crawling does NOT qualify.

If I recall, that was the REVEREND Irving Fryar. Perhaps there is a RI exemption for carrying clergy, pistol packing priests, or munition mastering ministers. [wink]

Do you remember how he got off then?

How long ago was the case, and who was the AG in RI at the
time? Depending on the AG, and who the DA is, makes a -huge-
difference. If the powers that be decided not to turn him into a Bernie
Goetz Omelette, then that's how he got off. In an anti climate, most
states will throw you in jail for doing such. Local politics/pressure can
make a big difference in some cases. It's definitely nothing worth
counting on, though. I would venture a safe guess that there are people
in jail who got acquitted in terms of the violent act, due to self defense, but
are still sitting in jail on a felony gun posession charge that was "must
stick" because of some zero tolerance policy someplace.... go figure.
