Paper towels on the wall, the counter, and an empty roll as to say FU to all you that can't AR10 or paper towel
someday I'll operate like that
good looking setup

I have 3 Aero M5's an M&P 10 in 7.62/.308, and a few other M5 based assemblies "in progress ". A couple of the newer ones will be a long and short Creedmoor version..

The M&P 10 is a really nice rifle in all respects but S&W messed around with so many things you are basically married to them forever for any maintenance (ie non standard gas tube is one, barrel extension is another, why nobody knows). Additionally they calibrated the gas system for .308, some mil grades of 7.62 cause short stroking. Has occurred to me maybe I could lighten buffer or spring, haven't tried such yet, but in short the design is not without compromises.

IMO Aero M5E1 receiver sets are some of the best AR10 stuff on the market, the guards bolt on which is a feature I really like, the recievers have a bunch of improved features over mil spec oriented stuff. Barrels are OK but hit or miss with BA/Aero IMO, would not pick them generally on a custom assembly. BCG's are great, the phosphate & QPQ models are a reduced firing pin .070, good for creedmoor, however the Silver Nitride are identical to Toolcraft .308 version with a standard .075 - no issue for .308 but are not ideal for creedmoor..

If I came into a bunch of $$ I might consider a Barrett but short of that I like what I got.

An adjustable gas block can be very helpful with these rifles, overgassing is common and leads to odd ejection problems where the rounds can deflect themselves back in. Also keeps them from beating themselves unnecessarily.

A lot of folks jump right to a scope on AR10's, my favorite is a 16 inch carbine with a 2.5x or so and a 25 round mag - like an AR15 carbine just heavier with waaaaay more power, but I have a bench model with a 14x on it too and one creedmoor may see a 20x.

Damn you...I was over it until you posted that

Haha seriously though if I had to reduce my AR's I probably would keep mostly, maybe entirely, a collection of AR10's and dump the 15's (and a 9 or two).. Anything 5.56 does 7.62 just does as well or better. They are just heavier and a little painful, ok maybe leaving a mark on your shoulder if it's a carbine :), after 150 rounds or so.

You should see how 7.62 breaks up concrete compared to 5.56 or Russian, it is eye opening. Like 2 rifles in those calibers, couple mags each, and a 3 inch sheet of concrete is still there. 25 rounds of 7.62 nato and something like that just falls down like its a sheet of glass, is just rubble when the dust settles and you can see it clearly again. Home defense, oh hell freakin no! A moose, bear, someone hiding behind a vehicle, urban warfare, long range shooting when it's not paper, hunting, give me 7.62.
