A staff member at the Holyoke Veterans Home is in custody for allegedly stealing the wedding band off a dead veteran.
Three weeks ago, State Police were called to the veteran’s home to investigate a theft after it was discovered the wedding band was missing from a disabled vet who recently died.
After interviewing several staff members at the home, the morgue, and the funeral home troopers were able to narrow down the timeframe from when the ring was last seen and when it went missing.
State police found 53-year-old certified nursing assistant, Antonio Bell of Springfield was in contact with the veteran over the past three years as well as his body days after he died.
Records at a local pawn store that show Bell had sold the stolen wedding band for 85 dollars. Bell was taken into custody and was arraigned on several larceny charges.
A State Trooper was able to recover the ring and return it to the veteran’s family.
