Well did he?

Thought I’d make this it’s own post...and separate from the Acquisition thread where MilSurps are few and far between.

January byf43 K98k, mostly correct.

Real nice. I like how they crammed the 5 digit serial on the bolt. I guess waafenamt boy got tired of that at some point after a few 100 thousand of em.

Interesting how a sleepy town produced so many karabiners and pistoles.

Interesting historical side note....at this point in the war, Obendorf was not making their own bolt bodies. They were subcontracted to the Fabrique National plant in Belgium; Waffenampt e/140. Mauser's in house Waffenampt at the time was e/135. The assemblers stamped the serial numbers...the inspectors added the approval stamp. I don't have many K98s anymore (3 versus 20), but their history still fascinates me.

...not sure why I still keep this picture on my computer

If selling a few old department store 22s scraping some copper and brass to scrounge up a few hundred to buy a k98 mauser barrel count as stocking stuffers, well then I did

Late, early? Matched?

This is my first 1903a3 so you could probably tell me more about it! Serial number and finish makes the receiver, barrel, and stock possibly original? Finish on firing pin sleeve, rear sight, safety, etc is a different finish than the bolt. Bayo lug and barrel bands are also a darker finish. Everything I have found with markings is marked R. I can't wait to shoot this gun!

Looks mostly good....finish on the bolt seems odd
t
Some where out there is a decent guide to the metal finish difference on the A3s
from dark/light park, blued and what have you.
Theres different sub contracted parts, arsenal refinish and it goes on and on.
Nice rifle , get it dialed in and ready for the 2021 cmp games!

Got two a Posen K98k built on a VZ24 receiver and a 1917 Oberndorf Gew 98 with an original mud cover. Both matching and not messed with.
