Healey seeks 1-on-1 debate with Patrick
September 27, 2006
Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey yesterday sought to narrow the gubernatorial contest to her and Deval L. Patrick, saying she would welcome a head-to-head debate while also criticizing the ``noise" from her harshest critic, independent candidate Christy Mihos. Healey, the Republican gubernatorial nominee, said that she did not consider Mihos a spoiler in the race, but that his impassioned attacks on her Monday during the first general election debate clouded her efforts to contrast herself with Patrick, the Democratic nominee. ``I think it's pretty clear that either Deval Patrick or I am going to be the next governor of this state, and when people go to the polls, they deserve to know where we stand," Healey said during a news conference in Worcester. Mihos rejected Healey's criticism and said he planned to participate in all of the debates. There are at least three more slated before Election Day, Nov. 7. Each includes Mihos and Grace Ross, the Green-Rainbow nominee, who will also appear on the ballot. (AP)
