Dick's sporting goods stinks

It was $27 more at my local shop, which is fine, i don't mind paying a little more for good customer service. They also had a zip tie around the lever.

IMO you may save $20 to even $50 buying form a place like Dicks but it is worth the $ to go to a local gun / sporting goods shop. The shop I'm using in Salisbury has given me well more than the $50 I would have saved if I had gone to one of the mega stores for my handgun. They comped me range time ($25) a holster ($30) and about 3 handfulls of different amo to try in my revolver.......try getting that at Dicks!!!!! I do the same with my ice fishing purchases.....support the local guy......it pays dividends in the long run!!!

I was at the Natick store Sunday. I asked the guy at the Ammo counter for a couple of boxes of 9mm. He said they also had an ammo can with 350 rounds. It would be a couple of cents cheaper per round. cool I showed him my card, he gave me the ammo can and I walked to the register without any escort. At the register the kid asked to see my card. I showed it to him, he looked at it, gave it back to me and that was that.

That's been my experience at that particular store every time. A peek at the license before they hand it over the counter and no further issues, even at the checkout counter.

I love these threads - they are so funny! [laugh]

Yeah, Dicks Sporting Goods is "Anti 2A" - it's very apparent. Don't let all those guns and piles of ammo fool you folks - it's a secret ploy...[wink]

I've written this a thousand times, so what's one more? Dicks Sporting Goods is not a gun shop - it's not your local neighborhood mom-n-pop. It's a big box sporting goods store with a gun department. You will not always find expert advice in a big box store - even if you're buying soccer cleats - let alone guns and ammunition. I work part time there and I have a reputation for being knowledgable and service-orientated. I try to make it feel like a gun shop when I'm there, but it isn't and never will be. I work in the Lodge - it's a big department that's responsible for nearly half of total store sales. I can walk you through the finer points of firearms, manufacturers, ballistics, ammunition, kayaks, camping gear, archery and beyond. Ask me about fishing tackle though and my eyes glaze over. I'm useless at giving competent advice to anyone but absolute beginners. You cannot hope to walk into a store like Dicks and set expectations that the associate you meet is expert on much. For me, it's a second job and I happen to know a thing or two. Many however do not - again, it's not a gun shop. It is however a place where if you're willing to go through the process, can indeed produce some pretty decent deals on new firearms and if you're lucky, have someone behind the counter who knows what they're talking about.

As to their corporate policies regarding trigger locks, escorting firearms to the register and extra requirements with regard to identification, I'm not privy to the ivory tower in Pittsburgh and have no idea why their policies are as they are - only that they are. I may not agree with them and think most if not all are stupid. However, I have nothing to risk now do I? Dicks Sporting Goods has 450+ stores and their stock is up. They're doing gangbuster business and believe it or not, sell tons of firearms and ammunition - tons. Every single day. If they take extra steps, follow the law exactly or their corporate standards are not up to your liking, here's a quick suggestion: Don't shop there...Bitching and moaning on the interwebs won't get you anywhere and in fact, costs you at least 3 internets and 4 or more rep points, so take that into consideration and take you business elsewhere...

If they are not a gun shop, then they should not sell guns. Support your "local" shop owner.

That does it! You guys have proved to me that Dick's is dirty and I'm not going anymore.

I'm going to Wal-Mart from now on!

It has come to our attention through our CIBT, (Corporate Internet Bitching Detector), that Internet superstar Carnea among others are upset with recent changes in Dicks Sporting Goods policy. We are therefore announcing that due to this, we will be suspending all firearms and ammunition sales from all 480 Dicks Sporting Goods retail locations. We apologize for having the vision and drive to expand from one small mom and pop location to the nation-wide chain we have become. What were we thinking? Thank you Carnea and all the other gladiators for justice - we are sorry to have inconvenienced you.

Sincerely,

Dick

If they are not a gun shop, then they should not sell guns. Support your "local" shop owner. Dick's can pack sand.

But if they sell guns, then they are a gun store. Therefore, Dick's is a gun store.

Besides, who are you to decide what stores can sell and what they cant?

What does this mean?

I like to support local guys. But on the same token, buying from Dicks supports local guys too. You know the people that work there that are your neighbors. They need a part time job to make ends meet. The kid that works needs to get through college.

You should think about that too.

JW. It was probably just a clerk (not the whole Dick's sporting goods in general)
... he/she was probably not trained well to do the job .
take it easy ... It happens all over around.

Made a visit to Dicks today (Danvers) and the employee was completely overwhelmed by a crowd of one.

The Dick's here is interesting, they don't sell anything related to handguns. Not even bore brushes. The guy behind the counter every time I go there for Hoppe's or oil is the same good old boy, we always end up swapping hunting stories for quite a spell.

At the checkout counter, I was asked to provide my DOB. I was buying one of those evil extendable loppers, with a SERRATED blade!
