I was working by dick's in Plymouth today so I went in to check out a Henry .22. I did stop by my local gun store first and they didn't have one in stock. The clerk carded me and handed me the gun. Being a lever action I wanted to test it out. I asked the clerk to remove the zip tie and trigger lock and he told me "no it was against store policy". I handed him back the gun and told him I would not purchase a $300 broomstick without testing it all out. This is just another reason to support your local shop.

Wait...trigger lock on a lever action ? [laugh]

Are they really that stoopid ? [thinking]

Wait...this is a Dick's thread [slap] Of course, they really ARE that stoopid. [laugh]

It was $27 more at my local shop, which is fine, i don't mind paying a little more for good customer service. They also had a zip tie around the lever.

I had a similar situation at Dick's with a Henry repeater Golden Boy. After searching my local gun shops to no avail I took a quick trip there to pick up my son's birthday present. It took two hours and five employees to fill out the forms. They also put the standard two-sided trigger lock on which was useless of course. After processing the applications I got some ammo. Two employees had to escort me to the cashier one with the gun one with the ammo. Then a double escort again to the parking lot. Never again what a joke!

I've bought a few boxes of 12 gauge ammo from dicks and have never had an issue. Had to flash my ID at the gun counter, but was able to carry my ammo to the cashier myself and did not have to show my ID again.

It is very obvious from all the recent "Dick's Ranting" threads, that they are very anti-2A and/or have really stupid and invasive store policies. My question is, why do NES'ers that read this forum continue to go to their damn stores? [thinking]

When they handed it off to you, you should have grabbed an empty bottle out of your car and placed it on your roof. Then walk 30 feet and start plinking.

The only reason I've ever shopped at Dick's was because I needed ammo for trap shooting the next day and the local gun shops were already closed. I live 2 minutes away from dick's, but I'll gladly drive the 10-15 minutes to the gun store if they're open

"Dick's sporting goods stinks"

Show of hands, it's official.

For the upteemph time there is a reason why they don't call it Richards.

You do realize they sell guns and ammo. Right?

Of course I do...that is why people in this forum are complaining that they have to give extra personal information, show all sorts of IDs, have multiple people carry their items, give DNA samples, etc...just to buy a gun or box of ammo. My point is that some (not all) of the Dick's stores are making up a bunch extra rules and/or regulations for people to purchase from them. To me, that seems anti-2A. If you encounter a unfriendly Dick's, then why not stay away and go to a "friendlier" local gun shop (i.e. give business to someone who deserves it)?

Everyone who whines about Dicks, must be forgetting its a sporting good store, not a gun shop.

I shop there, and wil continue too, because they have everything I need for my sporting good needs.

i hate dicks beyond belief. id rather pay a little extra to a local owner like you than support a huge corporation... although i will buy ammo here on a sunday morning

I went to Dicks in Keene,NH today (only place to get my grand daughter a kids fishingrod, so she can go fishing with me tomorrow, When 4 year old Grand daughter asks "GramPa will you take me fishing" All else is put on hold) Anyway while there picked up 2 boxes of 12ga #2 steel shot, carried it to the check out myself. The only thing I had to do was answer on the touch pad, Yes or No, If I was a U.S. Citizen.

Was looking at cammie gear for duck hunting. The selection was unsuitable for duck hunting (bright color logo's) The decoys were glossy finnished. Total junk.

Based on this story, I think it's a MA thing if they are normal in NH. Most places here tends to go full retard here when selling guns or ammo.

Ever been to Sam's Outdoor Outfitters ?

Right down the road on Rt.12, 99% of the sales staff knows what they are talking about and while they might not have a bigger selection than Dick's , what they do have is usually much better.

I go there instead of Dick's.

I guess I am one of the lucky ones. I din't buy much from Dicks, but sometimes am forced to if Wally world is out of 38 special for my 686. The guy that works at the Brockton store is a real shooter and a member of my club. And the last time I was there they did not escort me to the register or ask for any personal info etc.

Another member here told me that the Hanover store opens today and that they were selling ammo at blow out prices to get people in to the store

Dicks is really a last resort kind of place for me. Purchasing a gun takes 3x longer than it should, the ammo is locked AND behind a counter, there is never an employee at "the lodge", they ask for LTC multiple times for ammo and record info,...etc..
