I want to believe the PO, but it appears liked he tried to trick the guy into resisting. What's worse is the guy seemed to know even though he was not a threat, there was good chance the PO would try and shoot him.

Only thing I can say re this right now, so important to have that camera there.

That deputy is going away for a while and that Airman will be getting some $$$. What a joke. Thank god he didn't die from the shots.

I saw that on the news this morning. From the tape they played there did not appear to be any threatening move & he was following instructions.

I agree with Derek on this.

It seems to be getting to a point where one can't trust the Police at all!

Way too many ND's, videos of police brutality, unjustified shootings, etc.
and this is all done by those who "Protect and Serve" :?

Since it happened in the PRK, Derek may be right (hopefully).

I can tell you that if it were to happen in VT, the LEO's and the State would try to "White Wash" the incident. Of course, the video would be damning. We had an incident up here, where a guy threatened Suicide. The cops shot him. They got away with it, even with public uproar.

I don't believe that. With all the rhetoric about not trusting law abiding gun owners, then a LEO does something like that. I guess it is good that the officer can carry a gun in the entire country, but you and I, the law abiding citizen, cannot. But the police are perfect.

I am not saying that the police are bad, I want to be one when I get of active duty. I just don't think they should be treated any better than anybody.

As I posted on another board this morning. California really needs to clean house on their police officers. This officer needs to lose his job/badge, serve time, and be sued for everything he's worth. Hopefully this Airman will be really well of after this. I believe that seeing it is in Cali., if there hadn't been a tape of this it would have been swept under the rug. I know I'd make damn sure this officer pays.
I am not anti Police by any stretch of the imagination. I have dispatched and my in-laws were LE.

In fairness to the police: Have we seen all of the tape or just something out of context ? There was a lot more to the Rodney King tape than was ever shown to the public.

Having said that, just remember: "The police are your friends." [twisted]

I've watched it a few more times since this AM. I think I saw all I needed to.

I'm usually with the PO, but Rodney King didn't deserve a beatdown and this guy didn't deserve to get shot.

If they can do it to them, they could do it to us.

In the case of Rodney King, I gave the cops the benifit of the doubt to start beating him. However, they continued to beat him after he was obviously subdued. That's a No-Go. I also considered the witness statement from the Deputy that observed it. She said violence was initially justified, but after they subdued him, they didn't stop.

In this case, I haven't seen the clip, but it sounds pretty damning of the cop. Try him for either Aggrivated Assault or Attempted Murder (under the assumption he's not justified).

In all fairness it is California, where some of their officers really shouldn not be on the force. You're saying it is okay for this officer to act this way, and to shoot this Airman. This officer looks to be in the wrong and should pay for it. I am not anti LEO either, but if it walks like a duck..... and if this hadn't been taped by a civilian I would have no doubts that Cali would sweep it right under the rug. I still say they need to clean house in their depts.

    Mark,

The passenger was sitting next to the passenger door on the street with his hands on the gound. The officer asked him to stand up 2 or 3 times. As he stood up the officer fired 4 times.

Kind of hard to justify shooting him under this scenario. Think 4 shots might qualify for attempted murder?

I guess we'll just have to wait an see how it all comes out. If the officer was wrong, he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent.

Could be that the Deputy had some preconceived notion about ALL US servicemen and doesn't trust any of them.
"A US serviceman on the Japanese island of Okinawa has been arrested for allegedly molesting a 10-year-old girl."

"U.S. serviceman is connected to Al Qaeda"

"US serviceman arrested in Japan over murder charge"

Looks premeditated to me. Like he knew if he just shot him while he was on the ground, they'd be able to figure out it was a defensive wound. By telling him to get up, he could say the guy was lunging toward him.

Jon, you're stretching it there....not to mention all that you said did not happen on our shores or in Cali.
We could list all the reasons why not to trust the LEO's too for that matter, and California Cops prove it more and more. [evil]

If it's found to be intentional he belongs in prison.
