DESCRIPTION

There are many times your carry gun will not be available or practical to use in a defensive situation in which case knives provide a convenient and effective means of self-defense. This comprehensive workshop gives you the know-how and training that may save your life or that of someone else.

The common pocketknife is a superb stand-alone self-defense tool and an excellent companion to firearms, pepper spray, and other defensive tools in your layered personal protection plan. Most small pocketknives can be carried in any state and in most foreign countries. If you can’t have your handgun, have your knife!
If you’re not carrying a knife for self-defense, ask yourself why not. And if you are, keep in mind that possession does not equal proficiency; therefore it may be prudent to learn the fundamentals of knife and edged-tool personal-protection skills.

Cape Gun Works is fortunate to have a very accomplished knife-defense instructor who previously trained elite military teams on the east coast using a time-tested variant of Filipino Martial Arts (FMA), known as Serrada Escrima.
Attendance and parking is limited and we have overflow parking spaces at the restaurant next door (Barbyann’s)
This self-defense class is intended for all and is particularly beneficial for women and teenagers, who are the most likely group to encounter grabs, chokes, and holds with the greatest “disparity of force” during violent assaults. This can be taken as a one-time course or you can choose to delve deeper into the concepts by attending continuing workshops hosted by Cape Gun Works.

Workshop Requirements:
*Comfortable clothing you can easily move around in
*Students with long hair should bring a hair tie

*Note: We don’t train with real knives in the classroom.

An Overview of Combat Serrada Escrima

Developed in the Philippines, Serrada Escrima is a close quarter combat style of martial art which consists of stick (BOLO, machete) knife and empty hand skills and has been proven in various conflicts around the world. It involves a simple learning structure to teach effective self-defense skills in a relatively short period of time.

About the Instructor
Shawn Christensen has been training and teaching Serrada Escrima since the early 1990’s and has trained various civilian, military, law enforcement and security personnel. He has also been involved in private security, both locally and abroad and takes great pride in training others in this highly effective combat art. Mr. Christensen is 3rd Generation instructor under Master J.C. Cabiero who trained under Grandmaster Angel Cabales. His laid-back teaching approach makes it very effective for those new to blade tactics to gain a wealth of knowledge in this specialty area of self-defense.
