Officers canvassing the neighborhood went to the 81-year-old man's house a short distance away on Pleasant Street. That man, Manley said, told police that he hadn't heard a thing.

Police returned to trespass on that property a short time later, [STRIKE=took a closer look around]took a closer look around[/STRIKE] performed an illegal search of the property and found a .22 caliber rifle on the man's rear deck.

Fixed it for them.

Well I wonder if it was regular cops or game wardens. If it was game wardens they may have the authority to look at folks property without a warrant.

JW would know on that area since I believe he was a game warden (environmental police in this state).
