I was out plinking today with a .22 and as I was setting up I heard chirping. I looked around a bit trying to find the chirps as they seemed nearby. I found a bird's nest up in the rafters of shooting shed. I carefully removed the nest and had a look. There were five baby birds all standing up with their beaks open wide. Of course as soon as I retrieved the camera they all laid down and went to sleep piled up on each other. I put the nest back, babies & all very carefully after snapping a pic to share. I wonder if these birds will be deaf when they grow up. I did observe Mama bird going back & forth with bugs for her brood so rest assured no birds were harmed in the taking of this picture.

Anyone for a game of crazy quail ?

Yeah, not too many folks there most of the time. Woodsman Rifle & Pistol Club out in Athol. Usually have the place to myself. Close by, quiet and low key. A good place to plink with my boy.

Hopefully that wasn't at Mansfield F&G.

There are birds nests in the rafters at most outdoor ranges I've been to.

When I was at Mansfield last weekend there was a discernible stench of dead animal. Later discovered 3 dead chicks on the ground under the nest that I've seen there each time I've been to the club.

I guess that a predator bird may have done the deed.

I'm amazed at how used to the sound of gunfire. I was shooting my .257 at the 100 yard range at MRA a few weeks ago, and a robin started digging for worms while I was shooting.

Didn't seem to mind much as I sent my 120 grain handloads whistlin' over it's head.

Also there was a chipmunk forraging on top of the tubes. he didn't seem to care about my muzzle report either.

Just used to it, I guess.

Arrrrr

There was a chipmunk on the range the other day. Every time my nephew would take over, he would run back and forth across the target holders at the 50 yard line. As soon as I would take the rifle, the little bastard would hide!
