A Griswold, Conn., man shot and killed his son Saturday night after the son repeatedly stabbed the man and his wife, the Hartford Courant reported Sunday.

Police said David Gemeasky Jr., 24, entered the bedroom of a home in Griswold, about 50 miles east of Hartford, Conn., around 7:40 p.m. Saturday and began stabbing his father, David Gemeasky Sr. He then attacked his mother, Tamara Brennan, as she tried to run away.

David Gemeasky Jr. was arrested in August and charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct after he locked himself inside his parents’ home with powerful rifles and armor-piercing ammunition. He surrendered to police after a lengthy standoff with a SWAT team.

I'm so confused as to how someone who took hostages and had a standoff with a SWAT team wasn't locked up... Do you just get a slap on the wrist for that?

CT, If you have an AR with a collapsible stock, you get 3-5 years. Standoff with the cops, interrogation and a don't do it again. WTF, over!!!
I feel very bad for the parents, the situation may be very f---ed up, but its still dad having to shoot the son, any which way, it's not good.

The holiday season. Your own flesh and blood. How incredibly awful, this family needs all the help they can get making it through this.

Count your blessings.

Gemeasky Jr. was arrested on weapons charges in August following a nine-hour standoff with state police SWAT team. On Aug. 21, police said they were called to the Bethel Road home where a caller reported hearing a gunshot from Gemeasky Jr.’s room. Talks with police negotiators through an open window led to his surrender. Police seized firearms and ammunition, including six loaded guns, high-powered rifles and armor-piercing ammunition, from the home.

Gemeasky was later taken for a psychological examination. He faced misdemeanor charges of unlawful discharge of a firearm, disorderly conduct and first-degree reckless endangerment. At Norwich Superior Court, where the case was tried, records show Gemeasky was accepted into a probationary program for first time offenders called accelerated rehabilitation. If he successfully completed the program, he would have had a clean record.
