I was on a motorcycle ride today on Jamestown. Saw a rather large (30 to 50lbs?) coyote run across the road near Beavertail Lighthouse. This was at 9:00, 9:30am. It was alone, no pack. Didn't look like it had the mange or another issue.

I hate coyotes

I've seen them around 4pm in daylight a couple times, tried to get it with the car but the darn thing was too fast. Unless they are actively pestering people during daylight hours they just happen to be moving around during the day.

I saw one dodge through forty mph traffic with a woodchuck in his mouth in the afternoon once. Yesterday a pack got something at 3am. Got up and went out my .30 carbine but could not spot light anything. Went out because I have chickens, even though the coop is Alcatraz I thought maybe I forgot to lock down the inmates.

Sorry but but that is funny as hell.

That was Jamestown RI correct?

We have huge problem with them running between the main land and the islands. No joke, they take the bridges. Going fishing one early morning I saw what I thought was a dog on the Pell bridge. Nope, it was a pack of coyotes running into Newport. I wonder if they had the transponder mounted properly. [rofl]

I work at the base of the bridge over by the Casino and there are lots of them around. It's not uncommon to see them early morning around 7:30 on my way in or around dusk if I stay late.

In my neighborhood we did have one that was rabid and hanging out around the schools in the middle of the day. It had a GPS tracker on it and the latest I heard from a LEO friend was that it was put down.

Was it a big one (65 lbs) or smaller (45lbs)?

I'm currently living in North Andover and have seen Coyotes nearly a dozen times in the last year walking out and about around 2-4 pm every time. The one I saw last week looked pretty thin. There are also packs of wild turkeys around all the time so I'm sure they were looking for them.

what is really funny is how many people just assume they are stray dogs. I have seen them at all hours around me.. several years ago while building my shed I had one big yote that came by like clock work around 10am....slinking along the tree line with one beady eye on me as he passed....was with in 10' or so.

I've had three in my backyard multiple times withing fifteen feet while my dog was on the leash. They aren't afraid at all. Quite the opposite. This last Saturday my brother and I were talking at 9pm with my 5mo old pup at my feet. Three in the yard within about 15-20 feet. Never even heard a twig snap when I started throwing stuff at them. Next morning my brother and I went ito the woods to see what if anything was out there. There was a pile of my dogs toys in the woods about 70 yards from my tree line. I'm observant and don't miss much and these three have gotten close multiple times and the pup notices them before I do always. One lone one which is always with the other two came to my treeline two weeks ago and I threw rocks...he casually trotted to where the rocks landed and sniffed them like he was going to play fetch. He's distinctive and stands out because he's lighter than the other two. His face legs and chest are bright white and he's all I see in the dark when they're there til the others actually move. I want to get them to keep away from the pup.

There was one sighted on the old railroad tracks next to the BCEC in South Boston in daylight. Abandoned railroad tracks seem to have become a corridor for wildlife,

I see them during the day crossing the road all times of the day in populated urban areas now.

I was fishing one night few years back over in Wollaston Beach and caught some movement in the corner of my eye: coyote. I had waders on and was out a bit so he couldn't see me. I am happy he was out looking for the rats that I usually see on the rocks, LOL.

Love or hate them, coyotes are impossible to get rid of. Population density of them is a built in self control. The more food that is around, the more coyotes will be around. That translates into peoples pets that are allowed to roam then never come back home at night?! :( ie: cats & small dogs are easy prey.

Killing them will keep them away. Works for me.

Your pup will make a tasty snack......They will grab and run before you can react. Be smarter to stay ahead of hem and start weeding them out if you can. Hate to be reading on NES you lost him.

They move through our hood all the time in the middle of the day.
Brazen and bold. Gets all the women folk in a tizzy.
We rarely get to see anything interesting as we have 2 coyote alert killer dogs on patrol..

coyotes wouldn't dare do that stuff around here, after I whacked two of them I never see them anymore. Seems the survivors have long memories.

Twitter says there was one seen up the Point also, probably the same one (or an Irish cousin).....with my luck I can just imagine myself staggering out of the Powerhouse Pub (which is now named, I guess aptly, "Murphy's Law") at about 1am, turning the corner onto East First Street and seeing the
"Nice doggie... Good doggie... Here boy!"....

Was squirrel hunting zone 9 a few weekends ago and saw a lone coyote parelleling us in the woods for about a minute. He looked curious but left us Alone then trotted off deeper in the woods. Had a 20 gauge loaded with size 4.....if he came toward us I was gonna make him have a bad day.....but he left us alone.
