I'm planning on coming to the november shoot, mostly because I want to try out other people's guns to get a feel for what I like.I was told I should bring ammunition, but I was kinda at a loss.

I don't know what guns you guys are gonna have there, and I want to try out as many as I can. What am I supposed to do, buy 1 cartridge for every popular round? So I thought, whats ammo that everybody uses? Practically everyone has a .22, so maybe it could serve as universal currency like gold or porn. Also,I found a very good deal on a rifle that isn't exactly my dream gun,but I have to start somewhere.Maybe I could let people use that in return for using their gun.Sure it's a cheap .22,but I'm trying.

I rambled as I usually do.I guess what I'm asking Is you show up with your 30.06 and your 12 gauge, would you be willing to let me shoot them in return for some .22 ammo?

Well if you plan on going to a NES shoot you better go green first. Unfortunately I will not be at that shoot or you could shoot my stuff.

+1 to going green. AFWIW, just showing up is enough to have the fine green members offer up their guns for a test drive. BR, if you go green I will load a hundred extra .45 ACP for ya. Save the .22 stuff for cans. [wink]

Bringing a few bricks of .22 as trade for trying out everyone's guns sounds okay to me...

But honestly... think about the type of guns you want to try out... and just bring a value pack for each caliber.

I'd say if you bring:

1 x 100rnd value pack of .45
1 x 100rnd value pack of 9mm

You'll be covered for most of the pistols there.

Similarly, if you bring a few boxes of:

5.56
7.62
.308

You'll have a good amount of the rifles covered as well.

And like Fixxah said... even if you don't have the ammo... most, if not all of us, won't care [smile] Just ask... and you can try. [wink]

Yup, agree with everybody else. First you have to go green to attend the shoot. Then, buy some ammo, any ammo, for good will, and don't worry about it too much. A lot of folks will let you shoot a few rounds without needing your own ammo.

Shoots are members only events.

I was thinking that at the next shoot we should have a "first timers" table where it is expected people like BR come to try things. Maybe people could donate a box of ammo to it so newbies could shoot (supervised of course).

Great idea Matt! I brought almost 1000 rounds of .223 to the Athol Car Shoot, shot about 400, and still left with none. Anyone that wants to try my toys, any of them, is more than welcome.
[grin]

Hanwei, good suggestion on the ammo issue.

And Bando Red, it is a GREEN members shoot, so get your money to Derek pronto. There's less than a week.

First, spend $19.00 and go green, then buy a Shooters pack of Winchester White Box 9mm and .45ACP. Pick up some .223/5.56 if you can swing it and .308 if you find yourself into some cash flow. I will however likely not ask you for anything, but if you offer up some 9mm, you can run as much through my Uzi as you wish. Same goes for my SOCOM-16 and my AR-15. If you show up with zero ammo, you'll still get to shoot, but bringing ammo is a sign of goodwill in my book...

Bring any type of popular cartridge and there's bound to be a gun that someone is willing to let you shoot it out of.

.38spc
.357mag
9mm
.40S&W
.357sig
10mm
.45acp
.223
7.62X39
7.62X54r
.308

Don't forget the dreaded .500 mag. (if you're man enough! mwaaahhaahha)

I'm still waiting for the round Jim let me fire to return to Earth!

The Nov 29th Pumpkin Shoot is in Shirley.

There is also a Car Shoot in Westwood on Oct 4th.

As well as a Pumpkin Shoot on Oct 19 in Rochester!

Go Green!

And some good 12ga too, someone always has a sweet semi-auto shotgun there.
I know when it comes to member shoots, my saiga 12 is like my American Express, I don't leave home without it[devil].

As to the OP, you will be welcome to try any of my stuff without need to barter Bando. I think you'll find most of us willing to donate a couple of rounds for a newb.

I found a an old Springfield bolt action for 50$ that takes .22 long and short, and thats probably going to be my rifle.I was thinking of purchasing a good deal of .22 with some of my remaining money.

I'm one of those people who gets too much of everything. For example: I was in a D&D group with a few of my friends. This is one my friends carried,

Main firearm
30 rounds of ammo
bare essentials for maintenance and reloading
10 days worth rations
perhaps a backup gun

I carried a main firearm with 150 rounds of ammo, a secondary with 100,a backup with 50,a backup-backup with 20,and a saber,a knife, and 30 days worth of rations. This does not include the stagecoach I bought which carried over 900 lbs in lead and blackpowder which was pulled by orphans.

you see where I go overboard? Thats what is gonna happen if I buy 10 different kinds of ammo

Oh, that is rich!

was that a compliment? [thinking] a person who thinks like HTS is little harder to analyze than others.

Red,

Congrats on going Green. Come to the shoot. Look for me and I'll set you up with a bunch of stuff, and so will a lot of other people. Bring ammo if you can (don't worry about the caliber - just get something common, we all will have a use for it). If you can't afford ammo, don't worry about it - you'll still be able to shoot, just not as much. This is the most generous group of people I've ever met.

Oh by the way...
I was in a D&D group

If I ever make fun of you, this will be the reason why.

Happy to be green guys! Thats something I never thought I would say with all the soy-munching eco-nuts around. And trust me,after I played D&D that one time,I quit and never looked back.My DM was really tired of me pointing out the inconsistencies of ballistics in D&D.

You guys should be able to recognize me. I look like I'm 14. Maybe I'll wear my 18th century style top hat to be sure. I never get to use it.

Even though it was only once, don't be mad if while you are shooting I sneak up behind you, roll a 20d, and then say you didn't roll high enough to hit the target [smile]
