I know that many of the people on the board are licensed by the NRA as instructors, so help me out here.

My birthday is coming up soon, and I might try to convince my fiance to buy me some lessons on the handgun. I've shot guns all my life, but am relatively new to handguns and I'm sure that I'm probably just developing bad habits!!

So, my question is this: How much should a few lessons for an experienced gunner/rookie handgunner run me?

I'm looking to make sure I have the right grip, stance, follow-thru, and the stuff I don't know about, but that I need to build on. My accuracy is already decent, when I take my sweet time.

I'm pretty busy right now, so I won't be teaching a Basic Pistol class for a while. That's a good place to start. I charge $125 for Basic Pistol. There are some instructors here on the forum. Jon Green at GOAL teaches a good course at a cheaper price than I do.

Realize that while Basic Pistol classes give you a good basic foundation, they are fairly limited in what they teach. You will probably shoot around 50 rounds, so it is not a great deal of range time.

Once you take Basic Pistol, you could follow up with a more advanced class like SigArms Academy Concealed Carry, Ayoob's LFI-1, or Randy Cain's basic class.

Another alternative is one-on-one training with an NRA instructor. I charge $25/hour for that.

I feel you are better off taking a small group lesson rather than a personal lesson. (This isn't Golf [grin] ) Depending on your level of experience and how much your GF wants to spend, here are 2 courses with an excellent instructor.

Or, E mail Mike at New England Tactical http://malibumike.win.aplus.net/netac-production/serv01.htm

I think he charges about $50 per hour. Tell him Round Gun Shooter sent ya

I'd sign up for that. Price is right, and it looks like I could learn a lot. However, I'm out of town that weekend!

Thanks to everyone for their comments!
