I don't know if any of you have ever read this, I thought it was awesome. Right now (believe it or not) there's a thread on Beesource about the NRA convention. I got this link from there - it's a really good read!

See? Even beekeepers are fun to forum with!

It is. The original source, Backwood Home Magazine, has some very good articles. Unfortunately, their fact checking often leaves a great deal to be desired. This particular piece repeats the bogus "libery teeth" quote attributed to Washington. That one was obvious, but I haven't looked carefully at all the other quotes it contains.

Ken- can you elaborate anymore on the facts in this article? IMO the whole article is junk if even one thing is incorrect. I have no time to validate all the quotes either.

I didn't get a chance to read the whole thing, both links, but I'm going to throw this out there just to see who picks up on it.

The Second Amendment does not give you (as in the whole body populace) the right to keep and bear arms.

There I said it. I’ll be back later after going out and exercising one of my state granted privileges in public. I even have a card in my pocket that says I can, I bet a lot of you (forum readers) don’t even have one like mine.

That is entirely correct. The Second Amendment does NOT give us the right to keep and bear arms. The Second Amendment prevents the government from infringing upon our right to keep and bear arms.

I just noticed (and cringed at) the phoney Washington quote. I didn't see anything else that jumps out at me as being obviously incorrect, but I still haven't taken the time to go over it line by line yet.

Well, it actually doesn't prevent the federal government from doing anything; it simply states explicitly that, regardless of any interstate commerce or similar arguments, they have any absolutely no constitutional authority from doing so. It's up to the public to prevent them from usurping such authority.

As far as I am concerned, all the bill of rights does is to mention a few of our existing rights as human beings.
