What are some recommendations for CCW Holsters?

I'm not 100% sure which gun I want to use for my carry gun, but I'm thinking Glock 19, since I've already got one. So, we'll assume Glock 19.

I've got a shoulder rig, but it seems kind of bulky, and difficult to hide. I'm neither small or skinny, and want something fairly easy to hide.

Nickle,
I have told about this in another thread, but I am nothing but happy with my C-TAC holster from Comp-Tac. I have purchased 2 holsters from them and I have gotten the holsters in just a couple of days from my purchase date. The other thing I like about them is that they have a 30 day money back guarantee. If you don't like it just return it, or try something else! Can't beat that...

Looks like what I'm looking for! Thanks.

Another reason shoulder holsters may not be so keen afterall: It is really difficult to practice with them.

Most ranges will not allow drawing from shoulder holsters because it is impossible to keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, downrange or otherwise, at all times.

Also, when you draw, make sure you do not accidentally sweep your weakside arm.

I have a uncle mikes inside the waist holster. It works well, easily hides my 6904. I can wear in in the front or the back. It's more comfertable in the front but once in a while when I get in my car (Mustang GT) I pinch my "gun" with my gun if ya get my drift.

I am sure you guys are going to make me regreat writing that.

Who....US??? [lol]

I'm really thinking about that C-TAC. I don't like the idea of the poor muzzle control with the shoulder rig (except a military one, which is vertical carry, not horizontal carry). And I prefer the pistol to be in the back, where I can get it with my weak hand fairly easy.

If you mean small of the back when you say you prefer your pistol to be in back (SoB), I am not so sure this is a good idea.

SoB carry makes it very hard to protect from a snatch by an evil-doer, and, if you are not real careful, may actually involve an inadvertend sweep of your own body as you draw.

Also, your cover garment might become displaced and accidentally expose your firearm to all of those who stand behind you.

I saw this happen a couple of years ago in the Boston Municipal Court. A plain-clothes cop walked into a busy courtroom wearing a loud green sportsjacket that had a central vent in the back.

When I looked at the back of his sportcoat I saw that the vent had come down on either side of his holstered snubby, as if he were putting the gun on display. A court officer saw it at about the same time as I did, and immdiately hissed to him, "Cover your gat!" He did.

If he was carrying the gun in an inside the waistband holster, this probably never would have happened, because he likely would have been more aware of whether his firearm was concealed or not.

Scary moment, but crisis averted!

If your gun is pinching your gun then maybe one of your barrels is too long (and lets remember, there's only ONE of those barrels that can be too long...) [twisted]

I'm also a firm believer in the Milt Sparks SS. I have one for my 1911 (ordered thru Brownell) and P99 (special order from Milt Sparks direct).

Nickle,
I don't think you will be disappointed with the C-Tac at all. And of course with Comp-Tac if you are... Just return it! I agree that the position used in the picture is a good one. When mine is in that position I can draw with my left hand with little effort...

Jeez.... I sound like I work for them or something.. Maybe I should ask them for a commission!!

BTW I am also happy with their mag carriers as well!

We just had a Glock 26 come through our local shop with a Comp-Tac Gurkha and the combination seemed to work really well. I am planning on ordering one for a G19.

I haven't used it at all yet, but did put it on. It'll let me carry EXACTLY where I want to carry, is hard to see (other than hiding a Glock 19 isn't easy on a big guy) and seems to be fairly comfortable. I'd definitely recommend the CTAC as well as Gunner's Alley. Can't beat 2 day shipping, AND they were slightly cheaper than the manufacturer for the holster. $74, including shipping.
