Colt AR-15 mags - how to tell?

Did a search, both here and Google, but found no "easy" answer, and I have a short attention span.

A 30-round mag marked: Colt AR-15 .223 (with manufacturers's info, but no date) - how does one make sure that it's not a felony-to-go, with no date stamped?
