How many Mormons do you know? I grew up among several and then went to college with a bunch more, and I've never met so many people who were simultaneously completely pious and VERY good at finding loopholes in their own religion. A lot of them even brag about it.

New Hampshire guys, please chime in: is there a Bethlehem eruv? There's a pretty substantial orthodox community up there. Then again, not sure how they would keep it up or monitor it. The Boston list didn't show anything.

Chronicle did a story on it recently, they have a wire attached to telephone poles surrounding the eruv. Ther's a white Irish guy, contractor with a bucket truck who maintains the wires. Every week he drives around and does an inspection and repairs any frayed wires.

In 2019, the El Paso County Board of Commissioners unanimously condemnedColorado's proposed red flag law, saying it "infringes upon the inalienable rights of law-abiding citizens" by authorizing police to "forcibly enter premises and seize a citizen's property with no evidence of a crime." Elder likewise raised due process concerns about the law, saying his office would enforce it only if a family or household member obtained an ERPO or in "exigent circumstances" where "probable cause can be established" that "a crime is being or has been committed…

Even without Voepel's [the killer’s mother] cooperation, the sheriff's office might have had enough evidence to obtain an ERPO against him last year. But that does not necessarily mean it would have had enough evidence of a continuing threat to extend the order a year later. At that point, in the usual course of things, he would have been able to recover any guns that were seized. He also would have been allowed to purchase additional firearms.”

Sheriff Elder seemed to be making a case against due process concerns in enforcing ERPOs - his officers had already responded to a barricaded suspect threatening murder by bombing. It would seem the situation stepped over the “due process” line after the suspect was charged. Whether or not details ever come out on why the killer wasn’t prosecuted remains to be seen - it can take months/years. LEOs and prosecutors are likely to rat out one another only when it’s their own ass on the firing line.

A judge unsealed records in a previous case involving alleged Club Q shooter Anderson Aldrich, who was accused of making a homemade bomb.

"The judge’s order to release the records comes after several news organizations, including USA TODAY, sought to have the documents unsealed. The judge's ruling also came despite objections from state public defender Joseph Archambault, a chief trial deputy with the state public defender’s office representing Aldrich.

Archambault argued unsealing the documents would end any chance of Aldrich receiving a fair trial, noting the charges from the previous incident were never proven to a jury.

Archambault contends the coverage is "already painting Aldrich as guilty," and there's no way he could be seen as innocent. Aldrich is accused of fatally shooting five people and injuring 17 others at Club Q on Nov. 19.

"Unsealing the documents would end any hope of a fair trial," Archambault said."
