I was just poking around and not even sure how I stumbled across this.

The cmp started to add to the games over the years and they added a M1 unlimited class. Which is basically a M1 above and beyond As Issued.
All tricked out M1 Unlimited winning scores over the years

just to compare the current highest score in a As Issued Match at the “nationals” is 293/7X

I think the pool is not as deep as the one for as issued. Technically the unlimited Garands should be more accurate. The top competitors we know who have won multiple times always shoot as issued.

Just think some of our scores are only a few off hand shots from beating the high score for as issued of 293/7X
My best all time score with M1 with 06 with SR target was a 286/8x
99/98/89 I have yet to break out of my 265-275 rut since then.

Mo practice, mo bettah.

Was finally great to break 280 with that 282. I really appreciate being able to compete at OCSA. Good place to learn, and after that a good place to build nationally competitive skills.

Nice, M1 is generally not a good scoring rifle for me. Always in that 260ish zone. Yet I shoot a 265 with a 109 yr old rifle that I had only put 20 rounds through , poorly fitting sling and Zero "mods" . Fun Stuff.
Well time to break out the 853 and practice

Practice with the M1A pellet rifle seems to be helping.

Wanted to grab at least one gold with the M1 this year. I may drag out the 'unlimited' for a future match in addition to the HRA. No need to shoot the Spaghetti King Special every match.

yes golds with the M1 dont come easy for me...... I have plenty of the rusty ones.

I dont know if these are still correct or not but I generally do not get "gold" scores even if I get "the" gold at OCSA
I shoot high bronze/silver for M1 most days. I have a few 279s , springfield match flirt with gold scores often , vintage , well last week I hit the scores 275 for gold and a 267 for silver, whoohjooo!

2017 must have had some nasty weather.

The medals vary by match and from what I understand are based on statistics. Garand gold at Vermont was 280+, for example. Tougher field of competitors, higher cut scores for hardware.

I was trying to explain the “medals” to my friend how you can get a “gold medal” trinket but not be the High score. He then says
“When do participation awards start”

He's partly correct regarding 'participation' LOL, but those scores are indeed difficult to achieve. It's a way for the top shooters out of hundreds to receive recognition. The CMP medals are nice.
