Just thought everyone would like to know the CMP has a limited amount of 1903's and 1903A3's for sale. My order is in. Good luck!

I thought about it, but be careful. As listed in the description, these are former drill rifles and so the barrels have a pretty good chance of being trashed. Since they raised the price it's not as good a deal. For $400 it's worth taking a chance, but at $500+ you can get one for a similar price at a gun show but with a barrel you can see. I saw 03a3s and 1903s at the past couple of shows for $575-$600 in nice shape with great bores, you could probably talk them down to close to the CMP price.

The rifles at the CMP store at Camp Perry were REALLY beat up. I left empty-handed.

I rolled the dice for a High Serial Number Springfield with an "S" stock. I'll get what I get.

On a related note, the CMP also said they're out of clipped .30-06, possibly forever. They expect to have the loose crap for a few more years. I'm really glad I started loading my own M2 ball!

I know at least one place on the 'net that has brand-new, never issued, authentic 1903 stocks. So if the metal is OK there are still options. Rebarreling is cost-prohibitive and, to my way of thinking, diminishes the milsurp value of the piece.
