I know these are t mil spec but they seem to be well reviewed. Anyone have experience with this brand? Purposes will range from shtf, home defense and of course, fun.

I don't have one, but have heard nothing but positive feedback regarding RRA. I'm pretty close to 'pulling the trigger' on one of their match uppers. Their match triggers are also highly regarded as a reasonable option to the big bucks triggers. I don't think you can go wrong with RRA for any model.

Another one to look at is Windham Weaponry in Maine. Neat story how they came to be. I do have their VEX model and can regularly shoot 100 yd groups below 0.3" with reloads. I understand you are not looking for a target type rifle, but such accuracy is a good indication of their quality.

Both are high quality producers not subject to a big 'hype' premium.

+1 on the Windham Weaponry.... purchased mine August 2012 and not one issue (even with steel case) [thumbsup]

I shot a RRA NMA2 service rifle and it was gtg. I got their catalog in the mail and they seem to love adding pointless stuff to ARs (fancy buttstocks and weird risers everywhere) however they seem well made.

Well, as you can tell from my screen name I like Rock River Arms. Have nothing but good to say about the brand. I have a White Oak Precision Rock River Arms AR that is set up for High Power. Have shot the 600 yard range at Reading with it and it will do it's part if I do my part. Also have a RRA LAR8 (AR10 variant in 7.62) that I've been able to hit a 12x12 gong at 800 yards up at NHEric's range up in NH.

Have thousands of rounds down the bbl without an issue.

I recently ordered an RRA National Match A2 upper from their website. I went with RRA over White Oak Armament because I wanted a fast turn around, the following is what happened:

-It still took a month to receive an upper, and that was apparently fast for them from what I could tell when on the phone with them.
-They didn't even let me know when the upper shipped. All of a sudden I find that I had missed the UPS delivery.
-They sent me the wrong upper. They sent one with a bayonet lug and flash suppressor, when I ordered a AWB compliant version.
-When I called to get it rectified, they said they would only ship me the correct one when they got the wrong one back. They wouldn't concurrently ship both.
-On top of them waiting to send me the correct one, they also didn't try to make things right in a timely manner by picking up the tab on expedited shipping. They only paid for ground shipping to fix this mess.
-They received the wrong one back already, yet didn't let me know they had received it or the status on getting me the correct upper.

Who knows, maybe the upper will perform well. But so far I don't know because they've bungled things up and haven't tried to sort it out in a timely manner. I understand mistakes happen, but it's what a company does to fix the mistakes that matters, and they've fallen short there. Because of them, I am missing critical time to train for matches and develop ammo for the upper. I won't be buying from RRA again

I put a RRA Predator Pursuit complete upper on my target/hunting AR build. 20" National Match stainless steel barrel. .223 Wylde chamber. 1:8 twist rate. target crown (no threads). It's very accurate. 3/4" 100yd groups with good ammo. When I got it they had a deal that included a chromed bolt carrier group, which is a thing of beauty.

I built mine with a NES group buy lower, Geissele SSA trigger, & A2 buttstock. I've read good things about Rock River's factory triggers.

btw - I bought my upper from a LGS here in MA who matched the on-line pricing. YMMV

Well, I went to college with a guy who worked for the DEA for some time - before he got out, they started getting the LAR-1 rifles - he said he loved the trigger, didn't care for the handguard as it tended to heat up fast, but he replaced it and had no other issues. That and he tells me the 2 stage trigger is very smooth.....Im going to see if I can touch/feel, but overall, Im leaning in this direction.

Never heard anything negative about their quality.
