I wondered what folks thought about having a sticky in the classified
section that offered buyers (& sellers, I suppose) tips, do's and don'ts,
etc when considering buying a used firearm.

One tip that I would make to any potential buyer of a used firearm from the
classified section is to make it very clear to the seller that an offer for his
firearm is not a final committment until the piece is inspected and the
condition/description is validated. If the seller can't live with these caveats
then he should make the buyer aware that the offer is unacceptable.

What do you think (not about the tip, but the idea of a sticky)?

There is already a stickey in classifieds with the forum rules.
If you are advertising the sale of any firearms, as an individual you must also comply with the following:

- Statement that any shipments MUST go to a FFL.
- Statement that all Federal and State Laws must be complied with.
- You MUST allow at least a 3-day inspection period for any firearms that are shipped to the buyer, with a right to return it at buyer's expense (shipping both ways), with a full refund of the cost of the item (excluding shipping costs).
- NO bumping your message to the top unless at least 7 days have elapsed since the last post/bump.
- Under MGLs, private citizens can only sell a Maximum of 4 guns/calendar year. NO limit on selling thru an FFL.
- All For Sale Ads MUST include a sale price.
- Included in your ad should be at least a general area of your location.
-No links to advertise auctions. Items listed must be for sale.
seems to cover most of the contingencies, including 3-day inspection by the buyer.

NOTE: 3-day inspection ONLY applies to shipments. This is because there is added risk to buying "sight unseen". However in a FTF transaction there is no "right of rescission" as you get to see the goods BEFORE you plunk your money down (just like in a gunshop purchase).

Also, we'll need to amend that list for clarification, the 3-day inspection does NOT include shooting the gun and then deciding to return it. If you look at most/all other auction/for sale forums/vendor websites you will see that this is a standard requirement.
