It's been over a month since I have applied for my first time Class A LTC ALP permit. Does anyone have any experience in Sudbury? Should I follow up with a call to the PD? [?] [help]

"Legally", they have 40 days... but as has been pointed out in this forum before, with no penalty for missing the "deadline", many towns take much longer. I don't know anyone in Sudbury, so I can't tell you how long it might take there. I'd say call on the 41st day after you submitted, or even better, stop by and ask in person.

Once you do get your permit, though, there's an EXCELLENT club in the next town - Riverside Gun Club in Hudson. I'd be happy to take you on a tour or meet you for some shooting some day, since I live in Marlboro.

BTW... Welcome to the board!

Haskel,

Welcome to the forums. Hope you enjoy it here.

Yes, give them a polite call "checking up" on it.

Thanks For the quick replys and info!

I Believe Sudbury is a difficult town to get a Class A LTC ALP, but we'll see.

The Sergeant processed my request and seemed to indicate I should not have any problems. Would anybody know if he would have any say in my approval? Thanks again. :)

In every town, it is the same!

The selectmen dictate to the chief what the policies will be . . . or he's out of a job!

The chief dictates to whomever he appoints to do the licensing.

Just remember the adage "shit flows downhill" and you'll understand the system. :o

You mean like this, Len?

Haskel,

I right there with you brother!! 5 weeks and counting for me. It is an awful, agonizing, wait (ok, maybe I'm being a little dramatic). Fortunately the folks here are real freindly and don't seem to mind my endless questions to keep me occupied until I have something to play with.

I dunno about that, Len, the chief in my town is very Second Amendment friendly (plus I went to high school with the gun officer). Not all towns have bad chiefs, and in the 27 years I've lived here, I've never heard of gun policies discussed amongst the selectmen.

Ann,

Be very thankful!

Our first chief in the town we live in (31 years) was very pro-2A and issued unrestricted LTCs to anyone who asked as long as they were "clean". We became good friends and our LTCs never took more than 5 calendar days (initial or renewal). He'd meet any applicants at most any convenient (for the APPLICANT) time of day at the station.

Unfortunately he died of cancer and we had two anti-gun chiefs succeed him!

Our current chief does what he is directed to do by the Town Administrator and Selectmen. They hire/fire/renew his contract and thus he is beholden to them.

I was going to say, our town is pretty quick as well. I think no longer than 4 weeks with anyone that I know here that applied for their LTC. And everyone got an ALP with just putting ALP on their permit. No explanation or anything.

Ann,

We don't have a real problem where we live, but that is due to our involvement in town government. When our chief starts asking for stuff above the requirements, I just push back and that ends it. It certainly helps that I worked as a Special PO for 18 years here and am still in LE plus served in various appointed positions for ~28 years.

But the average person in this town does get the run-around by our current administration.

Ann, you're lucky hun. Not everyone else is...although my city isn't bad and the licensing officer's a good guy.

For those who are waiting, all we can tell you is just hang in there. There's not a lot that can be done, other than calling once a week after the 40 day period is up. Letting GOAL know that's it's taking forever will eventually (hopefully) help, because then they'll have names and the number of days it's taken. That's not a quick fix, but hopefully it will serve a usefull purpose in the future.

Sudbury PD said 4 to 6 weeks.
I'm into the 7th. [cry]

Lately, 4 to 6 weeks seem like the fast track of late. Hang tight haskel.
(Hubby and I were doing door duty at the Wayside Inn today. :D )

Day 47.
Got it! Class A LTC ALP. :D

I must say except for the wait, the Sudbury PD were very proffesional regarding my interview and persistant phone calls.

Time to go shopping then off to the range!

I would like to thank everyone who replied for all the support and encouragment!

BTW - Sudbury is a RED town.

Regards,
Haskel

How can Sudbury be a red town if it issues ALP?

Has Sudbury changed their policy? It used to be quite difficult to get an unrestricted LTC A in Sudbury.

I think because they ask you to go through a bunch of hoops: Copy of birth certificate, certificate of residency, 2 written references, and a letter to the COP + interview.

They used to do all that before, and still only issue restricted LTCs.
