Citizens Bank *EXTREMELY ANTI-GUN*, Close your accounts, don't do business with them!

Can anyone find the anti-gun policy anywhere online for Citizens? I am in the process of leaving them (for a local CU) and am within days of closing my accounts. If I am asked why, I would love to hand them a printout with the anti gun part highlighted and be able to say "because I am an American who believes in freedom." Of course, the reality is that the CU is giving me a really good (IMO) refinance rate, so that is driving the change.

They have nothing that specifically states that they are anti-gun. They do give managers a lot of leeway in determining what sorts of businesses fit their profile, though.
They have teams of overpaid lawyers that go over every policy to ensure they won't be entrapped by the language the public gets but that will still permit them the leeway to screw over whomever they choose.
I use a small local bank and have always had great service from them.
USAA, as has been said, is fantastic if you qualify.

I have a relative that works for Citizens, I had him ask specifically and they said it has been a long standing policy they don't do business with gun companies, pawn shops or porn. So I guess we're in good company. [rolleyes]

Alexander Hamilton liked central banking. Which bank has these commercials ?

Citizens does. They may or may not run them 24/7 on monitors in their admin buildings, which I may or may not work in.

I may or may not have spent 30 minutes looking at the banks internal site looking for a specific anti gun policy to no avail. :p

Why anyone banks with large banks is beyond me anyways, go local or go credit union. Big banks use your money to invest in risky things with big payouts and make tons of money off it while giving you a penny a month in interest and charging you fees up the @ss while they do it Interest may not be much better at a local bank or credit union but at least you know your money is being used by your neighbors in the form of mortgages and loans.

by the way, for those calling citizens and boa communist, I think fascist is more appropriate. Credit unions are more collectivist and communist (the true economical meaning of the word, not the partisan tossed around insult which isn't really the definition of communism)

Just got back from closing the checking and savings accounts I had with them. They never even asked me why. [hmmm]

Refinancing my Citizen's mortgage right now with someone else. Next up will be closing our account there.

Yeah, be advised that unless you have large balances, they are going to hit you with high monthly service charges once your mortgage is no longer with them.

I used to Bank at Quincy Credit Union until I figured out that you need a degree from Stupid to work there.

On 3 separate occasions they paid my mortgage 4 times in one month. I hate when people f with my money.

I'm betting you had it set up to automatically withdraw?

Citizens Bank *EXTREMELY ANTI-GUN*, Close your accounts, don't do business with them!!

I have a friend who owns a bait & tackle and guns & ammo shop. He had a citizens bank account for the business and a personal one for about 5 years. They talked him in to applying for a line of credit for the business. They denied him the credit and after asking why he found out that they don't do business with any company that has anything to do with firearms. So he decided to take all of his business elsewhere, but they beat him to it. Get this, they closed all of his accounts, even the personal one.

I find it funny that he had them for 5 years previous with no issues.

So also, as an aside to this post, are there other banks that are anti-gun? What is a good bank to use, because now I have have to find a new bank.

Now that is strange,I have two accounts with them. One of them is my business account,AimRite firearm training. The bank treats me very well, and I have picked up some work from a few of thier employees.

We use Eastern Bank at work. Never asked them any questions about firearms - or anything else except how they were treating my money!

Recommend us some good CU's please!

In my area, HarborOne Credit Union has been a great place to bank, for personal and business. They are now about to become a bank by vote of the customers, but as long as they continue to be the same operation, they will be a good choice. HarborOne is based in Brockton, with branches in Bridgewater, Raynham and a few other area towns.

I dumped BOA for Salem Five and I've been really happy with them thus far. Unfortunately, Citizens has my truck loan :( at least they aren't really making money off me ended up with a really low APR.

Consider it done and when they ask why, I will be sure to state this as one of my many reasons why I am leaving. I have been waiting for that "final nail in the coffin".

Any recommendations for a credit union in southeast MA?

Wooah there. That escalated quickly.. lol [laugh]

No need to be rude to the guy that works at the bank, he probably doesn't even know about their anti gun policies and probably will think "jesus what happened to him? what an ass."

I will be sure to tell them if they do not care to ask. On that note I am done with Comcast as soon as I get the chance seeing that they are anti's too.

This is also one of the banks that want $6 to cash a check. Anti gun and anti consumer.

They now charge $3 to withdraw from a foreign ATM on top of the actual ATM's fee! It cost me $26 to take out $20 the other day! [angry]
