Chris Christie Pardons Gun Owner

It was a good outcome, all things considered but.... I suspect the only reason Christie's handlers told him it was OK is because the subject was (a) a minority, and (b) had a "legit" reason to own a handgun (armored car driver). I suspect your slightly overweight middle aged white male who was in the throes of male pattern baldness whose gun was owned for "personal protection" or "recreation" would not have fared so well. The concern would be the danger of giving a talking point to the democrats.

Because it is too little too late and is just further indication of his (lacking) character.

There have been high profile cases that long predate his recent spats of pardons as well as his AWB support and claiming that "NJ's gun laws work". He still hasn't pardoned some of the worst cases nor has he pushed NJ to fix its completely broken laws.

There is no redeeming his brand of politician.

I don't remember any talk about Christie running for President when he commuted Brian Aitken's sentence. That was 4.5 years ago. Political gain? Of course. He's a politician. All politicians do things for political gain. They should too. Because those politics should coincide with doing the right thing. NJ was totally ****ed up well before Christie was governor. Is it impossible for a NJ politician to have just the slightest sense of good? Based on posts here, it would appear many think not.

His issuing a pardon is totally align with his politics and has been for 5 years now. There is enough other stuff wrong with his politics to attack him over it seems downright idiotic to lambaste him for doing something I would sure hope people would agree with!

I mean it sounds like people are suggesting because they think he sucks, he should only do sucky things. What a stupid concept that is!

Compare Christy's action to Romney's absolute refusal to grant a pardon to a man aspiring to be a police officer who had a juvenile conviction that would not even show up on his record if he committed the offense in any other state. Romney said he "refused to second guess the court", and missed the point that a pardon is about forgiveness, not deciding the person was not guilty.

Christie has had plenty of opportunities to support 2A in the past and failed. So now he can kiss my big hairy white ass.

No, he sucks and very little he can do and certainly less than he will do (because he sucks) will change that.

I'm glad he did it, but it just points out how many other things he should be doing every single day as governor to suck less (and/or just do his job and protect the people of NJ from the abuse their government rains and reigns on them).

And the same can be said with every single governor, and politician for that matter, in the country. So it seems odd to single him out after he does something...good. Illogical even.

I am singling him out:
1. Because NJ is really that bad. So bad that it presents a legal threat to anyone who even drives through much less lives there.
2. He has not permanently ruled out a presidential bid.
3. He sucks that much as a candidate and is the epitome of why the party needs to check itself before it wrecks itself and stop being socialist-lite.

I'm not following the logic.
The logic is simple:
THIS ACT IS INSUFFICIENT TO CHANGE MY UNDERSTANDING AND OPINION OF HIS CHARACTER WHICH HAS DEVELOPED OBSERVING YEARS OF HIS BEHAVIOR.

That is all - I am saying this is a callous pander and provides no evidence that he has "changed his mind" on this issue from his many statements in the past. As such, he is unsuitable to hold any office in my opinion, much less than that of President of the United States and I hope others would see the same and hold him to that standard.

I am not saying this is proof of how much he sucks - that comes form all the years that have led up to now and his behavior and statements during them. I am saying, "don't be fooled, this does not make him "pro 2A" "

Again, not following. How is him correctly issuing a pardon the issue that pushes you over the edge? That is, by definition, illogical.

I think his history as a flip flopping anti-freedom hypocrite speaks for itself.

I am very surprised to hear, especially from you, that rightfully pardoning someone is a "callous pander". WTF? He's cold-hearted for pardoning someone? You're usually right on with your points. But calling someone out for doing the right thing is, and I use this word seriously, stupid.

You are not reading - try again. My opinion of him was formed BEFORE this action. This action DOES NOT CHANGE MY OPINION OF HIM. It REMAINS AS IT WAS.

What I am saying is that this changes nothing. It does not push me over the edge. It does not alter, in any way, shape or form my opinion that he is an elitist douche who has no business governing anything.

The action of an elitist douche, to issue this pardon, who does not understand the proper role of government in SERVICE to the people who's fundamental rights are inherent and unalienable is a callous pander rather than an indication that he has suddenly realized he was an elitist douche.

There is no hypocrisy or change in my opinion this day - only an explanation of why an elitist douche might do something good and and it has nothing to do with actually being good. The logical explanation for why an elitist douche would do something good is to improve his optics.

I'm sure that there is absolutely no connection to his run for the White House and long standing criticism that he's a complete sh** show when it comes to the 2A. [rolleyes]
If he was really in support of reciprocity, he'd have a bill filed and then fight the fight. He's also order the NJSP not to arrest non residents for mere possession when they are traveling through the state. He'd exert pressure on the PAPD not to arrest people checking firearms at Newark Airport.

He's done none of that, not one thing. He only issued the first pardon because of the media spotlight and the fact that he's running for President.

New story but no actions yet, just words
http://www.nj.com/politics/index.ssf/2015/08/christie_says_hell_likely_pardon_gun-toting_out-of.html

Article states that he'll "likely" pardon several out-of-staters that have been recently arrested in New Jersey and that he "supported" introducing a reciprocity law but didn't expect the Democratic-controlled legislature to cooperate

All Christie needs now is a hunting photo a la John Kerry. [laugh]

This idea of pardoning people after the fact and not working to get rid of the bad laws (stopping the prosecution as the head of the executive branch for instance) is offensive and even more damning to his character than doing nothing at all.

"Everyone is a criminal, but I will forgive you if you kneel or it helps me"...

No business holding office in this nation with that attitude.
