I can not believe how many people have a twisted view of reality when it comes to guns. If you see something that torques you off, send them an email. I have already sent two. Make sure you use facts to support your arguement. It will make for a better debate. I can't wait for the reply to mine.

They are pretty feeble. But it's good to keep abreast of how gun control advocates are arguing, to avoid being blindsided.

I think people in this country are very concerned about violent crime, and are prone to very knee-jerk responses to proposals which claim to offer relief.

As gun owners, it is our responsibility to answer these concerns as best we can, in order to preserve our rights and to help solve the problems in our country and communities, both real and perceived.

I think promoting shooting sports is one of the best ways to remove the mystique of firearms.

I don't know much about how the criminal justice system really works though. I don't know what is effective in terms of police policy and sentencing to reduce violent crime. It seems like New York and Boston both did a lot in the last decade to to reduce violent crime though, so maybe it is worth looking at how that worked. From what I've read it had to do with intense focussed policing in problem areas.

Reduce Crime

In some cases the crimes is reduced by playing with the numbers. Or deciding certain offenses are no longer worthy of enforcement so no arrests are made in those areas.

I've noticed that the only time the press will print or show anything involved with firearm's, it is in relation to a shooting or something negitive or highly unusual. They will find the strangest looking people, tie them into ownership of firearm's or their illegial or improper use and that is their idea of the everyday firearm owner.

They will never show how our club sponsers our annual toy drive from Christmas and raise over three thousand dollars which goes to buy gifts for area kids. Or the toy drive itself that provided a truckload of toys for those kids. All by owners of firearms. I've been involved in law enforcement for over thirty years and my dealings with legal owners of firearms for the most part had been positive. But good news is not what the media wants to put on the air.

I didn't see, but heard promos for John Stossel's piece on Friday night. Apparent [shock] ly he does think much of some gun laws...

Firearms

What really strikes me as funny is that very one that I've ever run into that is anti-firearms has never had any experience with them. They have never used a firearm in a sporting event or in compitition. They were never the victim of a firearm related crime. They just believe what they read and follow it blindly.

I would think that is half of these anti-firearm types ever saw a well run competitive event or some of the youth programs our club puts on monthly, they would possibly change their attitude. [shock]
