I was looking at upcoming matches, and saw a few in NJ. CMP has an upcoming Rimfire rifle match around Sept/Oct.

Is it legal for me to take my 10/22 to NJ for a match?

The rifle would be locked in the trunk, ammo would be locked in a separate case in the trunk, mags wold be Locked in a separate case (because you can't be too safe with NJ). No hollow point ammo, mags can only accept 10 rounds. I will not be carrying a handgun.

I would also have proof (an Email?) that I registered for the match.

- Would that be enough?

- Do I need to get some sort of temporary permit?

- Do I need to notify the state police or local PD (I'm sure thst would be a horrible idea, but it's NJ, I have to ask)?

They have high powered rifles matches all the time, so there must be a way.

If I were you I'd reach out to the match director and ask him. They run matches (rifle and pistol) in Millville all the time so there's probably some sort of competition exemption in there somewhere. http://www.cumberlandriflemen.com

Good idea. I sent him an Email. Thanks.

I will post his answer for future reference.
