So business has placed me in downtown Oakland, CA for the last 2 weeks and I may be here for another 2 weeks. Staying in the City Center Marriott, supposedly the best hotel in town. In the past 2 days there have been 5 shootings and 3 killed within a 10 block radius of the hotel. I did not fly out here because my business travel required stops in Indiana, Illinois, Nebraska and Nevada before ending up on the West Coast. I have concealed carry permit with reciprocity in many states, but CA is not one of them. By the way, the City of Oakland's response to this crime wave has been to publicize their gun bay back program. I have two options, hide out in the hotel or ?? Might I observe that the H&K P7M8 with an inside the belt carry makes an almost invisible carry piece. So, what would you do?

So, what would you do?

Probably do it quietly, without advertising the fact anywhere. I think you should have the freedom to do this, but others who have more power to act do not agree.

I wouldn't post the information that I am thinking about committing a crime on an internet forum. In the event something happens, this could come back to haunt you.

Staying in and chillin'

Not me. At least an hour before sundown I make sure I am back in the hotel and got the movie channel on. Last night I thought about how the whole scene here reminded me of the city of the future in Blade Runner. Sad to say, the hoodlums own the city and its streets at night. This is the world that "gun control" has brought.[frown] That's why I'm here on the computer.

All in all, probably a good decision. Last November I was in Houston for a few days. Except for one trip out with friends who know the area well, I stayed in the hotel/convention center complex.

There's plenty of trouble to be had without looking for it.

Find out what the consequences are of being discovered carrying if you don't have a carry license....in some states it's just a fine isn't it?

Update from Sunday night: five additional shootings and three more fatalities. Weekend total: 10 shootings and 6 dead. Oh, by the way, the honorable Ron Dellums (socialist mayor) has annouced the success of the gun buy back program.

If I had to be in Oakland I would check myself out of the City Center Marriott and check in to one of the hotels in Emeryville. It's only a few miles from where you are now, but in a much nicer and safer area. There is a Marriott Courtyard there, it may not be elegant, but when I was there I never felt I had to watch my back.

Thank God I am leaving tomorrow. Headed on to Las Vegas, Dallas, Houston, etc. etc. Should be back in the People's Republic by the end of the month. Did you ever notice that Obama's campaign seems like Deval gone nationwide? YES WE CAN!!!

Yes. Same empty rhetoric, same complete lack of plans or real ideas. Lot's of pretty phrases and promises, and not one word about how he'll pay for it all.

Well, actually we all know how WE'LL pay for it.

If your Going to San Fransisco

If your Going to San Fransisco

be sure to wear a Fanny Pack and carry a walking stick.

You wont need a gun in Oakland because its a City of Love Happenings. Not to worry. Just stay away from the Bad areas.

Some Really Kool places to vist if you have never been there.

The Citadel of Alcatraz: This is an old fort that was built for the Army to fight off the Kaiser They made the Movie there on the banks of the river. Its Spooky if noting else

Muir Woods: Great area. Its a National Park. They let me use my Golden Access passport to get into the park and the Ranger Girl told me that My "Special Friend" could accompany me for free?? Whats up with that?

PS: There are Really Big CATS in the woods. Try to hike out sometime before Midnight. Bring a Flashlight and a survival pack. There is Gold Nuggats in the Stream!

Try the Chinese Food: Its weird and they dont have Italian Bread but Try it anyway.

Visit the Fishermans Pier: Wait till you go somewhere else (Like Boston) to try the fish. It sucks. They dont even have GoouyDuck ( Geoduck) Clams. You can kick the Bum that dresses like a Tree. Dont Ask. Just enjoy.

Oakland has a Lot of History: It is the Birthplace of the "Hells Angles" check for the Musem.

If you enjoy Traffic and People in Traffic this is the Town for you. Otherwise if you never see it you have not missed much.

Remember: In some partes foalks say Howdy Ya'll but in Kalifornina the proper greeting is.

"Fruits and Nuts are from Kalifornia; Which one are you?"

You need to request hazard pay ;) I'm down in Santa Clara for another week or so... if you want to escape for a bit.
