Carry at the MGH in Boston?

...so...how are we supposed to know where we can and can't carry?

If you ask ANY BUSINESS if you can carry there, you will be told NO! at least 90% of the time. Based on personal beliefs, prejudices, opinions . . . but not grounded in law.

As the MGH staffer pointed out above, MGH (and I'll bet every other hospital) has a "RULE" prohibiting all guns/weapons/etc. But as a visitor/patient when was the last time you entered a building/mall/business and was handed a RULEBOOK, forced to read and initial it before actually entering the place to do your business?

We can not be expected to KNOW every business' RULES nor should we really care about them. Concealed means CONCEALED!

If you have to ask permission . . . expect NO for an answer . . . then what are you going to do?

The only places prohibited by LAW in MA are schools (all including colleges). This doesn't include "anyplace you might learn" however (e.g. libraries, med offices, etc.). Other places MAY bar you by doing security screening, but damn few places do this. Courts have "rules" that they are entitled to enforce (e.g. some LEOs are allowed, some are denied). Some state offices do screening, some do not, etc. but there still is no law . . . until you are told to leave then it is criminal trespassing if you refuse (but that isn't specific to firearms) . . . and any property owner can invoke this for any reason whatsoever.

Agreed. This is one of those situations where you really do not want to ask for permission.
