Picked this up for very short $. I do not usually collect foreign bayonets but the price seemed right. Have no idea what it is other than WW2 from the date "1941".

WWII bayonet for the K98k.

1943 agv is the code for Berg and Co., Solingen, 1942-1944.

Serial 2585 e-block; each block equals 9,999 pieces, so #42581 of 1943

frog: Otto Brenschul, Einsleben, 1941.

Next time, I suggest using an electrolysis bath to clean up these old treasures. There is no abrading or 'polishing' of the metal from this process and it will clean those recesses you can't reach by wire wheel or other mechanical means. It's also a lot easier... hook it up and walk away.

Google says its a German S178K Bayonet

majspud is right as to the maker of the bayo. The S/172K code would rather be regional for Thuringia.

That'd be Otto Breitschuh (as in "wide shoe") in Eisleben.

Even with the non-matching sheath but including the frog (you wanna treat that with some saddle soap)
it should fetch $100 easily.

Frog Treatment

Thanks

The frop is currently undergoing it's second treatment with Piccard's.
