Can gun groups sue the state of MA for the emergency preamble? And if yes, what would happen if it worked?

It’s clear that there is no emergency and it’s blatantly obvious this was a move to usurp the will of the people. If they get 85,000+ signatures can they come in and say this is f***ed up and get the whole bill suspended until the vote? Is there any potential for that?

And if they did where would we be with our laws? Would we just be back to the old ones?? Would we suddenly have very few gun laws? Where would that leave us?

Yes, they can sue
No, it will not work

The standard for an emergency preamble includes "convenience" as a reason in the law - you cannot overcome the essentially non-existent bar for the governor in court.

Even if you could overcome it, the time line for the case would take you to pretty much 2026 anyway. Much better off going after the substance of the law and asking for an injunction against the changes (versus asking the court to turn Mass into a free state).
